The article discusses how methanol could be another alternative to gasoline and it is a made from natural gas, which makes it easier to make and use. Methanol (see Figure 1) is that it is the simplest alcohol with a chain of one carbon atom with three hydrogen atoms attached. The characteristics of this simple alcohol are that it is a light, volatile, and flammable liquid with a unique odor very similar to ethanol. The society we now live in has become so immune to free thinking due to the explosion of technology and the mass media. We tend to just believe what we are told by those who run the media societies, or by those who are integrated in our own comfort zone. In The Allegory of the Cave, Plato says our “bonds prevent us from turning our heads around”. This quote can be taken many different ways, but I chose to read into this statement by emphasizing how people are so comfortable being the way it is that they are unwilling to step out and explore life and the world around them. People in today’s society have become lazy thinkers and would rather be told how to behave and what to believe rather than making these decisions on their own.…

Some of the dangers associated with Dihydrogen Monoxide are severe tissue damage due to prolonged exposure to its solid form, can cause severe burns in gaseous form, and if accidental inhaled leads to death. DHMO is found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions. Sign of ingestion include extreme sweating, urination or vomiting, and for those who have developed a reliance on DHMO, total withdrawal means certain death. It's a major component in acid rain, the "greenhouse effect", killer cyclones, and El Nino. Dihydrogen Monoxide also contributes to soil erosion, decreases the effectiveness of automobile brakes and leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals. Dihydrogen Monoxide has been implicated in the deaths of thousands of Americans every year.…

Dioxins, environmental pollutants, belong to a group of dangerous chemicals known as persistent organic pollutants. They are found all around the world in the environment. Dioxins accumulate in the food chain. The higher position an animal is in the food chain contains higher level of dioxins. The half-life of dioxins in the body is about 7 to 11 years. They can be absorbed by fat tissue then stored in the body. Therefore, dioxins last a long time in the body once they enter. They are highly toxic that can cause cancer, damage the immune system, and cause reproductive and developmental problems. More that 90% human exposure of dioxins is through food.
