Nursing practice is always changing with new research findings. Nurses have to use current evidence-based practice methods available to ensure that the patients receive quality care through best practices. This research paper will review a growing problem in today’s healthcare field that needs to be addressed: Diabetic foot ulcers. To ensure quality patient care, current evidence based research has to be an important part of this process. With every new research proposal, a solid foundation has to be the basis for that specific research. This paper will discuss why diabetic foot ulcers are a growing problem in healthcare, methods used to improve outcomes (negative pressure wound therapy versus moist wound therapy), …show more content…
After systematically reviewing evidence-based research, a researcher has to develop a proposed evidence-based practice project solution for the current problem (diabetic foot ulcers). By developing a proposed intervention/solution, the researcher can include strategies that will incorporate the cooperation of staff and successful outcomes of the intervention. Once the researcher proves that the evidence-based practice (EBP) supports this practice change, the change agent (facilitator/staff) have to develop and test this intervention to show an improvement in this new method (Weston & Roberts, 2013). Implementing and evaluation using Lewin’s three step theory will also be discussed. This paper will also discuss all these areas with a proposed project’s timeline, subjects involved, the process of implementing the project, resources/materials needed, continued evaluation, overcoming potential barriers, and maintaining staff participation. The pilot study will be examined for validity, reliability, and applicability in current practice as well as strategies needed for negative outcomes and how implications into future …show more content…
234). It is estimated that the cost of diabetic foot ulcers is between 5 to 14 billion dollars annually (Guffanti, 2014). The need for new research on ways to decrease diabetic foot ulcers is extremely important in order to control this epidemic cost to the stakeholders (hospitals, patients, and communities). “Stakeholders include all individuals or groups who will be directly or indirectly affected by the change or a solution to the problem” (Guffanti, 2014, p. 234). Stakeholders involved in this proposal will include management, nurses, patients with diabetic foot ulcers, and the community surrounding this area. Diabetic foot ulcers do not happen overnight, but is a long process that is influenced by many factors that need to be addressed. Change agents (person(s) inside/outside the organization) can help the facility focus on organizational effectiveness, improvements, and developments that can transform the issue (diabetic foot ulcers) (Guffanti, 2014). Change agents will be the nurses actively involved in this proposal, so it will be important to involve them throughout the process to have a better outcme. Consistent systematic research results can then be applied in new treatment plans (NPWT) for all the parties involved. This institution, nurses, and
