Diary Entry On The Plantation
I am 10 years old. Life as a slave in the plantation is terrible. I do work from 7 am to 9 pm. I have to chop and grow cotton at the plantation. I have been at this plantation for at least 5 years.
I had a mom, a dad and 2 brothers but I got taken from my brothers and parents when I was around 5. I’m escaping so I’m free and I might be able to find my parents and brothers. I will escape with Harriet Tubman. I will leave tomorrow saturday January 25th. I will leave at night because most people are in bed. We know when to flee becasue Harriet Tubman will sing a poem and we will outside.I will bring grilled rabit, beef jerky, hard track , and corn fitters.
The weather is terrible. It is raining! I would flee when I see the song

Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs, is a biography on Harriet Jacobs life, she is telling her story as a slave and the events that occurred in her life. The Plantation Mistress by Catherine Clinton is a historical non-fiction book which details the lives and the daily struggles of the white women of the planter class as it existed during the antebellum era in the southern United States. Through the use of historical records and diary entries of the women themselves, Ms. Clinton clearly documents that the lives of the Plantation Mistresses were remarkably different and significantly more difficult than what is that of Scarlett O’Hara and her family. Furthermore, the expectations of the white females of the time were not that of the pampered southern bell who was indulged and spoiled by her husband and whose every need was tended to by slaves. In fact, the women of the time were in only a…

Analyzing, interpreting and presenting historical information involves dealing with great levels of uncertainty. As there exists limited artifacts which have survived the test of time, piecing together an era involves making educated assumptions. In the case of Martha Ballard, her diary provides us with a limited account of her life from 1785 to 1812. In both the movie and the book, the producers and the author have invested great effort into providing an authentic representation of Martha’s time as per her diary entries. This paper will discuss the difficulties faced by Ulrich, Richard P. Rogers and Laurie Kahn Leavitt in representing Martha’s time, the benefit of studying the lives of the marginalized and the ordinary people, difficulties in studying material culture and offer an analysis of quilts to make deduction regarding the women’s lives and their roles at the time.…

There is no other way in describing stories about slavery, other than coming from a former slave himself. “The Experience of a Slave in South Carolina” is a book on the life of John Andrew Jackson, a former slave who escaped his plantation with plans that he made up as he went on. Jackson talks about the trials and difficulties he, his family, and other slaves went through while being on plantations in South Carolina. Jackson and others have been through it all, they have been whipped, almost whipped to death, they have had family members die, and they’ve also seen others get whipped and beaten to death. Jackson stated, “My earliest memory was of my mistress (woman of authority or control), whom I was very scared of, out of all people, because…

1800 B.C. (the harvesting season) Dear diary I can’t believe my luck today I just brought some melon seeds from the markets I just hopefully that boost how much my crops are worth. When I get home I reach my new house that I got last month when dad gave me the farm I’m just so lucky that my dad didn’t end up giving the farm to stern (my younger brother) because if he had that would have meant that I would have had to ether join the army or become a peasant and I didn’t want any of those things to happen to me. When I got back to the house I stored the seeds in the shed then went outside to check on the two slaves. Dad had decided six years ago that we needed a couple slaves and that we had some room in the house for them.…
