The Chesapeake Bay and New England colonies were both mainly settled by people of English decent during the early 1600s. Although each colony was founded by people of the same origin, by the 1700s, both regions had evolved into distinct societies based on hardships that they faced, the type of government they had, and the reason for settling the two regions. Each society was faced with numerous challenges when starting out in each colony including hunger, inability to work, and harsh environmental conditions. Although both regions were settled by the English, each colony had their own unique systems of government. Along with different challenges and governments, the motives for settling the two regions varied from becoming wealthy to having religious independence. I love the way you explained how people celebrated 4th of July in America. It definitely gave us a sense of patriotism and national pride. America have gone a long way. Traditionally, it's to celebrate Independence Day with American flags, red-white-blue, and that whole game. Nowadays, from my perspective, there are some patriotic people. However, for me while growing up, it's more BBQ, pool parties, fireworks, and most importantly red-white-blue & American flags. Every year a large amount of children and women take on the challenge of traveling to the United States, some legally, some illegally. Considering the risks women and children take everyday living in Central America, coming the the United States is a very big opportunity and uncertainty they are willing to take. When I came from Africa in 2007, I was really excited. To me coming to America was like going to heaven. America is considered a melting pot of ethnicities due to the majority of citizens arriving by means of immigration. In the 1940’s there were about 127, 000 Americans with Japanese decent living in the U.S. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1942 President Roosevelt passed an executive order to detain any American with Japanese decent in internment camps. The novel, When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka is based upon one Japanese American family’s experiences during this time. The main character in the novel is referred to as “The Woman” and she amplifies the great controversy of what it means to be American. The woman portrays throughout the novel that she is culturally American and only ethnically Japanese. She shows this American culture through her fashion style, her habits, and the upbringing of her children. Although, the woman has roots to Japan and remembers those roots through her food choice and Japanese artifacts in her home they are easily dismissed compared to the American life style she exhibits throughout the story.…
