Dicks Sporting Goods Data Report
For our business report, we have decided to critique sporting goods store Dick’s Sporting Goods. The whole report is 85 pages long and includes company financial statements, history of the company, and managerial reports. The purpose of this business report is to record the companies financial statements and other forms of information to the public stakeholders. Business reports are typically assigned to enable you to:
Examine available and potential solutions to a problem, situation, or issue.
Apply business and management theory to a practical situation.
Demonstrate the analytical, reasoning, and evaluation skills in identifying and weighing-up possible solutions and outcomes.
Reach conclusions about a problem or issue.
Provide recommendations for future action.
Show concise and clear communication skills. (Massey University)

In this report, Dick’s list all of the problems their company faces and possible solutions to the outcome. The purpose of this report is clear and easy to navigate through. The first portion of the report is a sales message to potential consumers stating the benefits of purchasing their inventory.

Analysis

One of the most interesting aspects of the report we found was the factors that could influence their business, present and in the future. Dick’s list the following factors, among others, in some cases have affected and in the future could affect their financial performance and actual results. They go on to list that the major factor of their business is the state of the economy. Like most businesses, Dick’s relies on a strong economy to increase company sales. The chart on the report states that Dick’s hit the weakest point in their history in 2008. This is from the results of a recession that hit nationwide and affected most businesses.
