Ogles, said, “My veterans always seem to work harder than my other students.” In his mind, he believes that veterans are more responsible than regular students are. I believe that most professors could agree with his statement.
In contrast, people out of high school believe that they have a good work ethic. For the most part, they have a tendency to take their time with coursework and have a habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. Multiple people in this group only appear to do the bare minimum just to get a passing grade. Regular students do not think about getting the top grades but rather think more about just getting through the day.
Although veterans start school at a later age then regular students, there remains a large difference in maturity level. Veterans take their college courses more seriously than regular students do. For example, a veteran will communicate with all their professors and will interact with them on a weekly basis. Even though they are cautious about their attitudes and actions toward their professors, they want to make sure they have a good relationship with them. Most veterans come to college highly motivated, because they paid for their college courses by serving in the military. Veteran students remember all the things they had to go through just to get in to college. These students had to jump through many hoops and struggle against a great number of obstacles. For example, almost all veterans know how it feels to work for 24 hours on Christmas or Thanksgiving. When multiple assignments arise, the veterans say “easy day”. This means that, “I am going to get through this no matter what.” Veterans always have more excitement when they start
