for about a week” if not that deadly/serious (World Health Organization). Some symptoms of the flu is that “symptoms of cold develop slowly and can include: fever up to 102 degrees Fahrenheit, cough, runny or stuffy nose (often with green or yellow-colored discharge)” (U.S National Library of Medicine). Also, cause a “sore throat, sneezing, fatigue, muscle aches, headaches, and watery eyes” (U.S. National Library of Medicine). There are numerous symptoms created by Influenza.
Influenza can be cured in different ways.
There is a vaccine for the flu. The main way to prevent from getting the flu is getting a “yearly flu vaccine” (U.S. National Library of Medicine). Another way to prevent from getting the flu is “to wash [your] hands often with soap and water” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). About most of the infected people that get influenza “recover within one to two weeks without requiring medical treatment” (World Health Organization). But if you do decide to get a vaccine, it can help to “reduce flu illness, doctor’s visits, and missed work and school due to flu illness, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalization” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The Centers Disease Control, CDC, recommends that “a yearly flu vaccine [be given to] everyone 6 months [and older]” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). There are many different ways to cure the
flu.
Influenza sometimes kills the host. Like in the case of James D’Imperio, the 14 month baby. It all started on January 5, 2002, when James “began to run a fever” (Families Fighting Flu). Later, on a drive home to New York City “ the coughing and [fever] continued” and “that evening [he had a bottle with] medicine and a humidifier” (Families Fight Flu). Later that night, his mother “[bathed him] to help bring down his fever, but by early morning his breathing seemed labored” and he was also wheezing (Families Fighting Flu). He was later “rushed to the emergency room for what they thought would result in oxygen treatment” (Families Fighting Flu). About 90 minutes later, James D’Imperio died at the hospital, on January 7,2002. If ever infected by influenza, the host may die.
There are new advances being added treat influenza. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIAID, used technology “to design drugs that target specific viral proteins and cellular processes” (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases). There are numerous symptoms, different cures, and different ways to kill the host that is impacted by the influenza virus.
