The Royal College of Nursing defines Dignity as a “concerned with how people feel, think and behave in relation to the worth or value of themselves and others. To treat someone with dignity is to treat them as being of worth, in a way that is respectful of them as valued individuals.” (RCN 2008)

In promoting and providing Dignity and respect one must be able to demonstrate professionalism by following the “Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct (NMC, 2015)” This states that we must promote positivity and choice whilst involving client, although this has evolved over time through researches, investigations and consultations, it is still centred on providing a comfortable, friendly, warm and secure environment for the recovery of patients.
In saying this, (The Francis report 2013) promotes that all health care providers must maintain and treat every individual with Dignity and Respect in order to promote a positive and comfortable process for the recovery of a patient, it is also intended to help nurses and medical professional to reflect on possible issues and concern arising in order to promote good practice and encourage patient
