Discrimination And The Importance Of Diversity In The Workplace
In this course we talk about diversity in a work place. I tend to work for an organization that handle diversity well. After reading chapter two I was able to understand more of my manger perceptive and how they handle diversity. Two factors that I will love to share that my job handle well that this chapter touch on is discrimination and how the organization mange diversity effectively.
I work for a company whereas many people have different demographics, beliefs and value, but we tend to come together and complete a daily goal together. About a year ago my organization had a discrimination incident. Many of the employee thought that the company was not going to address even though we had a policy about discrimination. It took a week before the job address the situation and the work environment became uncomfortable for the employee. The form of discrimination that happen was sexual harassment. Before this course I did not know that sexual harassment is a form of discrimination. Basically the company got to the bottom and it came from stereotyping and miscommunication. One example my company did was made more people aware and sensitive to the needs and different of others. We had a couple of transgender workers who worked for the company. The problem for some people was the bathroom issues. We only had separate bathroom for women and men. So customers and employee will complain about how they were uncomfortable about the bathroom with transgender. To solve the problem the job install family restrooms. They create a positive diversity climate because they listen to employees and others about the change. They created fair treatment for all employee. After learning about this chapter it make me understand why company go beyond the way to make sure everyone is treated fairly and why a company that have a high diversity seem to do excellent in the
