In my personal journey, I have been on both side of situation. I have been stereotyped and discriminated against due to my looks, color of skin, gender, and weight in public setting and in the work force situation. When it comes to stereotyping people, I try my hardest to look at people open minded and not fall in to that mind set. We are all human and stereotyping come naturally to everyone. When it comes to workplace I have worked in many different area and some of the most common stereotyping I came across what do to my look. People would see my skin color and would start racial profiling me. They would ask me if I could speak English, and do I know how to read. In some jobs, they would racial group me with other Spanish dissents and assume I didn’t finish high school or I could fallow simple direction.
Some position the men would be races toward me because I was a female in a male job setting. They either would talk down to me or would discriminative toward me in front of others. Some comments I would get was “this is a man’s job little girls can’t do this kind of work.” This co-works where ethnic and gender group profiling me. In some case, they would start the say races commons and become prejudice toward me. If they saw me struggling they would just act as if I wasn’t there or they would give me more work.
