Music, whether it be liked or disliked, does not actually disturb your concentration unless you let it. The only music that is proven true to negatively affect your ability to work is music with lyrics. Music with lyrics is an inconvenience with short term memory potential making it quite a bit harder to memorize a phrase, or remember a certain order of words.
Foreign music is a bit different though. If you understand the lyrics, your brain will concentrate on the lyrics and your work; making your brain multitask and making the work about two times harder because of it. When listening to music while in a group, you can easily tune them out, which may cause you to miss vital information or not get anything done. Tuning out others may cause conflict by them getting irritated and/or annoyed with you which in itself can be a major distraction for everyone.
Now listening to classical music is a different story altogether. Classical music benefits the brain, sleep patterns, the immune system(?), lessen anxiety, and reduces stress. Studies have shown that children that have listened to classical music while falling asleep or at least an hour a day for a six month period have shown brain changes that show increased levels of relaxation, even when this music was not especially paid attention to.
Listening to more relaxed pieces of classical music is more beneficial than listening to classical music that has quite a bit of dynamic changes. This is best done by listening to solos, preferably solo piano pieces, but stray away from large orchestral
