The federal and state governments are the largest supporters of health care services in the United States. Examples of support that our government provides include assisting those who are in need of health care with numerous options such as Medicare and Medicaid, the employment of millions of people, and billions of dollars each year for new discoveries, treatments, and cures. The government does indeed offer great assistance with programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, two of the largest programs that the government is involved in. Not only does the government provide those who are in need with Medicare and Medicaid, but there is also the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). These programs provided by the government are there to help those who cannot afford insurance. Insurance is not affordable to many families due to the economy and I feel that just because a family or an individual cannot afford insurance does not mean they should not be able to attain it. If these programs were not available, then there would be many more sick or dying people across the nation because of lack of care.…
Many thoughts circulate my head when thinking about what the Springfield Gas Scholarship would mean to me. Mainly, receiving the Springfield Gas Scholarship would alleviate the financial burden that I will face as a college student. Because I have a one parent income, it is difficult for my single father to completely support all the financial responsibilities that are required for a college student. With that being said, the rest of the financial burden will be put placed upon me. Overall, receiving the Springfield Gas Scholarship would mean far more than just help financially.…

Americans are fortunate to have available assistance during the tough times. Such assistance has been around for years to assist with healthcare for the elderly, tuition assistance for college students, and income for the unemployed. There are many different views towards government spending, many of which criticize it to a certain degree. Many taxpayers question the logics…
There are approximately 67,891,000 Americans receiving government assistance, that is roughly 21% of the American population using some form of welfare. (Statistic Brain) While situations may arise, and people need help, the welfare system is now being used as a crutch rather than a stepping stone to becoming independent. The government should place more conditions on the various welfare programs. People all across the country are now abusing a system that was put in place to help people survive in a time of need. Welfare was created in the 1930s following the Great Depression to provide people with some assistance while the economy was at a low…

A large problem for many college students is the cost of tuition and yearly tuition increases. Many students do not possess the luxury of having parents willing to pay for their tuition. Most aren’t even granted some sort of scholarship or grant to help them out with the cost. A good number are left to find a college they can afford and at the same time work full or part time to pay for it. But the big problem here is the out of state tuition costs. Why should someone who lives in the next state over have to pay almost double what students in that state are paying.…

Paying for community college can be a handful for some. While many can pay for college with financial aid, however a many students argue that they can’t afford to pay off tuition or the cost of books and material because it’s too expensive and they don’t attend community college. This is a serious issue for many people that want to earn a degree in a particular majors. Obama promotes the idea that community college should be free to attend and take class without the burden of paying for tuition or the overwhelming cost that students fear. With that statement gain more of an outcry of students agreeing on the idea and many others opposing of it. In the article by Joanne Jacobs, “As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea,” she discusses that there are pros and cons to both arguments.…
I have often wondered where the majority of the tax payers money goes. It is obvious it is not going to the federal debt nor to the education system but perhaps maybe to the civilians who choose not to get an education or a job but to live off government welfare and medicaid. Ironically, these people are more than capable of providing for themselves. It is bothersome to know that my American Dream will not be completely mine, ever. There will always be a portion that will go to a woman or a man who is, for lack of a better word,…

This issue is very close to me because I am attending college, along with many of my friends and hearing about their struggles with paying for college is something I hear about often and is something I constantly think about. Some of my friend’s parents are paying for their education and this is a great help to the students but this causes a strain on the parents and can make them decide to pull money out of their retirement (carpenter).…
Federal, state and local funding are all important to the funding formula for public education in Texas. A large chunk of funding for Texas schools comes from sales tax. Every item that is purchased, with the exception of food, has a sales tax added on. Ultimately, all consumers contribute to the public education system. Every other week in the news, there are stories covering the rising costs of oil and gas. Every time we fill our gas tanks, we are paying taxes that go towards local funding of education. Many districts in Texas are filled with low economic status students, and are Title I campuses. Title I campuses provide free and reduced breakfast and lunch for students. These free and reduced meals are provided each school day. Title I campuses in Texas receive federal funding for the free and reduced lunch program. Each parent, every school year, is encouraged to complete paperwork for each student to qualify for the program. Throughout the history of public education the big question has been, “How can the funding of public education be equal and equitable?” Each state receives federal funding with the intent of the federal government to provide equal and equitable education to all children. The federal funding received by each state is allocated towards the basic necessities that…
Regarding to the increasing amount in the student loan debt crisis, we must get this program passed. If we fail to do so, college will become a luxury in the future. Due to the growing socioeconomic gap, increasingly less students will be able to attend college in the future. Society needs to take the leap now and push for free community college before it is too…
Furthermore, the price of college tuition is an issue that is keeping many young Americans from furthering their education. The cost of tuition is extremely high in many colleges throughout the nation. Those who attend college are left with piles of debt to pay back once they graduate. This is unfair because many college students work tremendously hard each semester with little to no reward. People say college is the key to success. Well the government needs to make sure the path is opened for more Americans over the next few years in order to keep this country moving…
