On 07/09/17, at 2:11pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was dispatched to 1475 Genessee Ave on a possible nuisance dog, owner known, dog confined. I arrived at the location and met with complainant Jennifer Haston. Ms. Haston stated she was walking eastbound on Genessee Ave towards Cleveland Ave, when a grey pit bull came charging at her. The pit bull followed Ms. Haston approximately 20 feet and she had to use a shopping cart to block the pit bull from attacking her. Ms. Haston blew a whistle she had with her to get the pit bull to back away and to get help.…
Suppose that a man got into a car accident and was treated at the hospital. The next day, he is able to go home and he decides to go to his favorite restaurant where he goes to have his favorite chocolate mousse. Once he tries it, it seems rather bland and not necessarily how it’s supposed to taste. He goes to the doctor and finds out that in the accident there was damage to his Godiva gland, which is responsible for secreting cocoamone, the hormone responsible for the satisfying taste and experience of chocolate. The doctor continues, telling him about a study that was not told to the public for the fear of what many would think, or say. This study showed that under high stress and physical abuse of puppies, these defenseless animals are able to…
Pico Iyer’s uses heat in various ways throughout his essay, “Inner Climate”. Iyer starts out by describing how heat in our outward climate causes changes. He then talks about how our “inner waters” (694) need to be tended to before our “outer environment” (694) can be healed. He concludes by telling us about his own small changes that may not change the world, still have a small impact on changing things slowly.…
The reader can infer that in the story, The Dog That Bit People, Mother tended to blame others for the Airedales(Muggs) actions by reading each scheme and being able to comprehend that Mother always blames others for the actions that Muggs is doing. Thurber is quick to add many details throughout the story and reveals the many different sides of Mother. The reader may now sense how Mother’s actions towards Muggs divulge. In paragraph 7 it explains that many people would like to have Muggs tied up because of his biting. Mother refused this and states, "When he starts for them, they scream," she explained, "and that excites him." This piece of evidence explains that Mother is blaming others for Muggs actions. In paragraph 5 the text explains…
In the trial of walt disney versus eric faden, I believe that the defendant is innocent. I believe that his work was fair use and i believe this to be true for many reasons.…
We all know, or at least hear about, Disney’s relationship with copyright, and how they refuse to let anyone touch their work. The character Mickey Mouse alone has lasted 87 years with a copyright over its head. Disney doesn’t want anyone to use their work under any circumstances. Although there is a brave man, who goes by the name of Mr. Faden, who used the loophole in the system in order to educate others in the most ironic way. This paper is discussing the court case of Mr. Faden’s remix “Fair(y) Use Tale” vs. Walt Disney. Mr. Faden’s remix is an educational video about the rules and laws of copyright and how it works, but the entire is told through clips of Disney movies. Walt Disney is claiming that Mr. Faden’s remix,“Fair(y) Use Tale, is copyright…
Summary of “Let Them Eat Dog” In the op-ed piece “Let Them Eat Dog” published in the Wall Street Journal on October 31st, 2009, author and journalist Jonathan Safran Foer, discusses the moral reasoning of eating certain kinds of animals. Foer states eating dog is a cultural choice, which inspires the readers to think why they select the animals they eat. Then, he argues how a dog, “man’s best friend” is not that different from a pig. By giving examples of different eating habits and historical evidence of dog eating among different countries, and how people interpret dog eating differently, Foer establishes eating dog is justified by culture.…
I will be defending Professor Faden. Disney is trying to sue Faden by saying that he was copyrighting his work, and how it’s not fair use. I think that it is fair use because, he was using it for education purposes, non-commercial purposes, and parody. Also he was only using small portions of Walt Disney’s work. How the judges decides that the work is copyright infringement or fair use is by, the transformative factor. The transformative factor is uses of a source's in a completely new and unexpected way. The judges also decide by the nature of the work. The nature of the work is how it benefits the public. They also decide by the amount and the sustainability of the work. The amount and sustainability of the work is how much of the work is…
Laws are currently in place designed to protect the public from dangerous dogs. Unfortunately, these laws are not strict enough and are not enforced consistently. As a result, dangerous dogs have been an increasing problem for several years. Some municipalities are pushing for specific breed banning through breed specific legislation. These community leaders feel breed specific laws would better protect the public against dangerous dog attacks. However, lawmakers are just that, they are lawmakers; they have no expertise in dog behavior and, therefore, have no business trying to correct a problem about which they know nothing. Separating dogs into the "good breeds" and "bad breeds" or banning specific breeds are not feasible solutions in eliminating the problem.…
There are 1,920 cases of animal abuse reported every year in the United States. Of those reported, 60% of these cases include dogs, 18% are cats and 22% of the cases are other types of animals. People need to join together and stop animal cruelty. There are numerous different forms of animal cruelty that include puppy mills, animals in lab experiments, and dog fighting.…
The third factor that BSL ignores is the factor of history. What is the dog’s genealogy and history of ownership? Has it been abused or abandoned? Much like humans, dogs are able to keep these traumatic memories in order to build the personality they upon adoption in present day. According to the Journal of Animal Applied Animal Welfare Science that did a research study on behaviors with dogs who have been abused and those who lived in healthy conditions. It wasn’t a surprise when the dogs who were abused seemed to perform ‘bizarre’ and ‘repetitive’ activities. It isn’t rocket science to think when an animal has a history of being abused that it would keep a stronger stance and enact in a more aggressive manner. This aggressive manner is…
As children, people look at the world with unbiased views; their thoughts are not yet concrete in opinion. Young minds ripe for influence, children become easily shaped by factors around them. Generally, parents leave a greater impact on their children than any other thing in the child’s life. How parents speak, make decisions, and interact with one another has the potential to shape their child’s behavior and thoughts. While parental influence is essential for children to develop morals, opinions, and self awareness, in some cases parent involvement will hurt rather than help. Children who grow up with unhappy or harmful parents become negatively affected in a way that is displayed through their character, and affects them throughout life. Such is the case for Letty, a fictional character in Leslie What’s short story Dog Eat Dog. In this short scene, What gives the…
