North Stradbroke Island is an island that is located within Moreton Bay in the Australian state of Queensland. The island is approximately thirty seven kilometres long and eleven kilometres wide. The island spans 27,520 hectares and of that only 445 hectares had been declared National Park. The highest peak is Mt Hargrave sand dune around 229 meters and the average rainfall is about 1803 mm per year. The rain does percolate through the sand into the islands water table. Underground water supplies are extensive; so much so that large amounts of water flow have literally formed the swamps on the island.…
On the following paragraph I am explaining the important of a Marine NCO and the role they play on the battle field. Truth out the history of the Marine Corps, The NCO always plays a key role in the military. There are the people that trained, guide, lead the junior Marines in all task or mission. They’re the ones that execute and supervise all tasks on the missions while maintaining control and discipline on the troops. Without the Marine NCO the main body of the Marine Corps will be in disarray and the officers will have a hard time running the operations.…
The photo above was taken in Pensacola Beach, Florida in May 2017 at just about sunset at 7:23 PM. As you can see from the picture, there is very little beach left in Pensacola. One reason is linked to rising sea levels from global warming of the Earth’s climate system. New ocean water from melting reservoirs of ice could potentially raise the sea level as much as 3 feet by the year 2100 (Florida Oceans and Coastal Council). Increased water temperatures are also linked to increased hurricane activity, which has the potential to cause severe damage to the coastline. As you can see from picture 2, the beach area is much smaller after hurricane Ivan came through. Buildings damaged from hurricanes had to be relocated and replaced and others will…
The book The Island at the Center of the World by Russell Shorto was very interesting and gave me a different view on history. I felt the story that was told was very intriguing but it did get confusing at times. There were parts in the book where he would discuss an important person like Adriaen Van der Donck for example in one chapter then he would jump to a new person in the next chapter and then Van der Donck would be mentioned again two chapters later. This was hard to follow because he would jump from person to person and mention many dates that it was hard to keep up with what he was saying. However, regarding his argument that Manhattan is what started America he does an excellent job at proving this. One example of this is “…in…
July 23, 2008 an odd and creepy grey “creature” washed upon the Ditch Plains beach, close to East Hampton. It looked like a cross between a turtle and a pig. What was it? Where did it come from? This “creature was called the Montauk Monster and it has been rumored to have come from Plum Island Animal Disease Center, a center not far from East Hampton. This Montauk Monster was said to possibly be an experiment from the disease center.…
Martha’s Vineyard is a small island five miles off the southeastern shore of Massachusetts settled in the mid to late 17th century. For nearly 300 years, from the early eighteenth century to the mid twentieth century, it was home to a remarkably high percentage of deaf Americans who developed their own sign language, Martha’s Vineyard Sign Language. This isolated island allowed sign language to flourish beyond the deaf community, dissolving barriers between deaf and hearing prevalent in the rest of the world.…
I think that three mile island should close because of dangers it brings. If Tmi would blow up the whole city would have to evacuate. And pollution would be in the river and around the city for awhile and if people were still in the city they would most likely die. But there are some pros and cons to why I think it should close.…
Prince Edward Island is the smallest but most thickly populated province of Cananda. It's people usually call their province "The Island" or simply P.E.I. The Island lacked the resources needed for the immigrants. There were too many people coming to Ellis Island to have enough space to support them. This was not entirely the staff’s fault, however. As reported by Renee C. Rebman, Ellis Island had over 800,000 processed passengers in 1905 alone, not including first and second class who had the privilege of going through at a different time than steerage (21). With such an immense number of immigrants coming in one year alone, it became burdensome on the staff to manufacture enough space for everyone. Since Ellis Island was so congested on a daily basis, some of the immigrants that were let off of the ship and into the main hall did not get helped the same day they arrived. This meant immigrants had to stay on the island overnight to get examined,…

Trump goes a step further by, suggesting that the United States needs to do deport all immigrants living in the US illegally. The cost to deport and keep out the immigrants would cost somewhere between $400 and $600 billion. The gross domestic product would also be reducing by 5.7% over the next 20 years. Trump recommends tripling the number of ienforcement officers to do the…
