Many question this due to the fact that Lyme disease was founded only miles from Lyme, Connecticut in the1950’s. This is also what is now referred to as a type of biological warfare agent. The Center for Disease Control has identified these as potential bioterrorism agents. The type of agent that is currently under research at: Plum Island Animal Disease Center.
With all of the animal experiments and lethal agents that are being studied and created at PIADC it can be seen why it is one of the few government facilities set as a Bio-safety Level 3 facility (it could possibly qualify for a level 4 at this point). The highest level is a 4. It makes you wonder what goes on the higher facilities if we are finding the above stated at a level 3 research facility. What I found above does help explain to me why Homeland Security is so involved in this center. The fact that it can be considered a terrorist target with all of the biological agents makes
