It may be an obvious choice, but I think a big headline that has impacted a lot of people in very different ways was the election of Donald Trump. I think it caused a lot of people to really look at everything and think how it was going to affect them. Personally, it made me look at myself and made me think about my future. I tried to think positively and that it’s only four years and how much can he really change in that time. It made me think about my friends who feel that they will be attacked or targeted by the new president. While I don’t know if my perspective changed because I’ve never supported Trump, or any of his legislative ideas, my awareness of my friends who are more affected is heightened.

I cannot comprehend that some people think that some groups are better and deserve special treatment over others. Being a biology major, and animal behavior minor, I find social interactions of animals very interesting. A lot of species don’t treat a subset of the group poorly because they are slightly different. That doesn’t exist in the animal kingdom. It is specific to humans. Humans are considered the most intelligent of the animal kingdom, yet we treat each other extremely poorly. As weird is it sounds, we should be looking to the social animals and modeling how we treat each other from them. I find ridiculous and somewhat appalling that we still treat each other this way. No one is special and deserves special treatment. Everyone should be given rights to make them as equal as possible and as equal an
