These youth get so much input from these games that they play that it become subliminal and it becomes part of their vocabulary, ultimately their discourse.
This paper will then discuss on the observations made by the researchers regarding the incorporation of the gaming language they are exposed to into their daily discourse.

The researchers deployed participatory observation while collecting data to be able to create a substantial and accurate analysis of the incorporation of gaming language to ones daily discourse.

III. Presentation of the Subjects

The subjects where observed in their natural settings. This was made possible because the subjects where somewhat related to the researchers for ease of access and gathering of data. They are college gamers who enjoy spending their time in competitive gaming in computer shops that offer rental of personal computer units for the use of the clients. They are normal students studying in a premiere university in the Philippines. They have no knowledge of the data gathering process to avoid contamination of the sample and observer bias.

IV. Objectives

Due to the short amount of time available for the researchers, only the incorporation of the gaming language into the subjects discourse will be analyzed and how it functions in expressing the subject’s thoughts and ideas. Analysis of the incorporated terms and expressions will be highly given attention in the paper. The researchers therefore aim to present the incorporations of the gaming language in to the subjects discourse as objective as possible with credits to the data

As I remember, my brother played video games in every minute and second. I believe you must wonder why I could insist not to play. The truth is I was too afraid to be addicted to those games. I knew I was like my brother. I have seen all the consequences being addicted to video games bring. So I never played the same games several times and this is how I controlled myself. When it comes to credibility of this book, James Paul Gee is very qualified to be speaking about the topics he addresses. Not only has he studied linguistics and philosophy in college, but he has also taught for many years in classrooms. This background is evident in What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy and his first book, which relates more to language. He makes many literary references throughout this novel, which were influenced by his college studies and his previous book. Gee has played many different kinds of video games as well, so he has first hand experience with the ideas he discusses in his book. With all of the examples of different video games he said he enjoyed playing, he could have an ulterior motive of advertising these particular games. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case since these games are very diverse in genres, brands, and creators.…

Not everyone who plays video games talks that much to other people. These people may be socially awkward. Video games can help children learn social skills. Tim Hodgson, the technologist, states, “Team-based games require communication to succeed. Not only do you need to understand the social language (each game has one), but you need to be an effective communicator. In the world of elite team gaming, communication is paramount and is finely honed after many hours of familiarity with other team players.” What Tim Hodgson stated was that when people play team-based games they have to communicate to succeed in the task. These games may include ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Portal 2’. His statement was supported by Isabela Granic, Professor, and Chair of the Developmental Psychopathology department in the Behavioural Science Institute at Radboud University. She stated, “When people play multiplayer games like ‘World of Warcraft’ or ‘League of Legends’ they get better at communicating with their partners in battle. This helps them talk more to people that have played it before” First-person shooters are not the only games that help children learn social skills. Games like ‘Pokemon Go’ can also help children and teenagers learn social skills. This was stated by Los Angeles Times, “During the study scientists found that games like ‘Pokemon GO’ encourage gamers to leave their home and interact with other people.” What they were saying…

Kurt Squire, a writer for “Game Studios”, in his article “Cultural Framing of Computer/Video Games”(2002) explores the role of video game in society that proposes that video games are the next generation of media with a variety of uses. He focuses on the history of games-media and compares the platform to other media such as film and television, in order to counter arguments critical of games, then he explores the beneficial implementation of games for learning purposes by providing evidence supporting games as learning tools. Squire develops this evidence in order to persuade the audience to favor video and computer games as a “next-generation” social tool. Computer-Mediated Discourse

Computer-mediated discourse is the communication produced when human beings interact with one another by transmitting messages via networked computers. The study of computer-mediated discourse (henceforth CMD) is a specialization within the broader interdisciplinary study of computer-mediated communication (CMC), distinguished by its focus on language and language use in computer networked environments, and by its use of methods of discourse analysis to address that focus. Most CMC currently in use is text-based, that is, messages are typed on a computer keyboard and read as text on a computer screen, typically by a person or persons at a different location from the message sender. Text-based CMC takes a variety of forms (e.g., e-mail, discussion groups, real-time chat, virtual reality role-playing games) whose linguistic properties vary depending on the kind of messaging system used and the social and cultural context embedding particular instances of use. However, all such forms have in common that the activity that takes place through them is constituted primarily -- in many cases, exclusively -- by visually-presented language. These characteristics of the medium have important consequences for understanding the nature of computer-mediated language. They also provide a unique environment, free from competing influences from other channels of communication and from physical context, in which to study verbal 1 interaction and the relationship between discourse and social practice.…
