    Double Fudge Summary

Double Fudge is the name of the book, with the younger brother, six-year-old Farley (Fudge), standing beside protagonist Peter and holding his gigantic “Fudge Buck.” However, through clever juxtaposition on Judy Blume’s part, I believe this obsession of a young boy to be merely a subplot, albeit a necessary one, as it leads us, the readers, to the real plot, and the message about family. Such appreciative contrast begins with the Hatcher family of New York, imperfect because of wild younger brother Fudge. With his newfound fantasy of money, the family decides to teach him a lesson and take a trip to the Federal Bureau of Printing and Engraving. Of course, all it does is boost his attraction to Benjamin Franklin’s portrait, but when they reach the gift shop, the real story begins.…

While preheating your oven, prepare the dough! Combine the 2 ¼ cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt in to your small mixing bowl. You won’t be using these right away, just set that aside while you prepare the rest of your dough. Now grab a large mixing bowl, add 2 sticks of butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and beat the four ingredients with your hand-mixer. Once the ingredients are well mixed together, crack the eggs into the mixture, one at a time. Beat the mixture until it is blended enough. Take the small bowl of dry ingredients, and slowly add small amounts into the already blended bowl. What you will be doing is adding a little, then using the hand-mixer to blend, little by little, until the dry mix is gone. Now you have the cookie dough. But wait! You have one last step! You can’t forget the chocolate chips! I tend to add the whole bag when making this dough, but feel free to add as many as you may please! Once you have added…

I am the librarian of the school, and I see your worries with the context of The Chocolate War. With all due respect, Mr. or Mrs. X, I think offering this book at the library as a reading choice is a better decision than taking it off the school library shelf. If I had not mistaken your letter, you have are three main concerns with the novel, too sexual, disrespectful to Catholic priests, and negative minded influences that the novel brings to the readers. According to our school’s mission statement, “ Gould Academy prepares academically motivated students for college and helps them to become independent-minded, ethical citizens who will lead lives of purpose, action, excellence, and compassion in a dynamic world.” We hope to help our students become success both in and outside of classrooms. There is lots of way to accomplish our mission, and for myself, I think one way to do this is to read. The Chocolate War is a novel about young adults, which can also refer to students at Gould Academy. It is also one of my intention to let the students have the…
