Dr. Dre is a music artist, producer, 6 grammy award winner and founder and owner of Beats Electronics. Hip-Hop music, technology and entrepreneurship all come together through Dre. Dr. Dre is the founder of Beats Electronics which are high quality headphones and speakers used all over the world. His musically talented knowledge of sound brought together with technology of HDMI cables from Monster, Inc. grew into business ownership and success. Isn’t it interesting how music, technology and business can all come together through a pair of headphones and one musical artist? Dr. Dre’s birth name is Andre Romelle Young. Dr. Dre came from a family with a musical background as both of his parents were singers. Shortly before Dre was born his mother Verna quit her group the Four Aces. His dad was in a band called Romelle, and this became Dr. Dre’s middle name. After Dre’s parents divorced he lived with his mother who remarried several times. Dr. Dre started his career as a DJ in his teens. His first major success came with the rap group N.W.A. He co-founded Death Row Records in 1991. Beats began with the beginnings of a tech engineer, Noel Lee.
Noel Lee is CEO of Monster Inc. Lee started making things ever since 1979, after he took an engineering education. He was always experimenting with trying to create better sound with inexpensive cabling. He is quoted saying; “your music doesn’t sound as good as it could”. He started in his family’s basement testing different types of copper wire until he found one that he thought provided great audio quality. This led his company, Monster, toward very expensive HDMI cables. The next step was speakers and then speakers for your head. He started with prototypes of headphones and then knew he needed audio partnership. This led to meeting up with Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre and then Beats was

Beats by Dre is the company that was first established in 2006 by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Beat’s product line is primarily aimed on headphones and speakers marketed under the name Beats by Dre. The headphone line places a heavy emphasis on bass, which for advertising Dr. Dre stated that the headphones “allow listeners to hear “all” of the music.” The company has marketed audio technology to other companies for use in their own products. Some of these companies include HTC smart phones and Chrysler. Technology companies like Apple and HP were well on board with Beats by Dre. Consumers of Beats use their headphones and speakers with several Apple products like I-phones, I-pads, and I-pods. Apple seeing the benefits of using Beats in its product line is currently offering a $3 billion dollar deal to purchase Beats by Dre. HP has already used Beats in its computer products like the HP Envy laptop. Beats purchased MOG, online music, in 2012 and this expanded Beats as a company into the online music industry.
