Dr Tackett History

In this video, Dr. Tackett talks about history. He does this by stating the differences in the past, the present, and the future. He goes on to say that historical revisionism is the same as a lie (Tackett et al, 2011). Individuals rewrite history to benefit themselves, which is the same reason that someone lies. Tackett compares the number of manuscripts that various famous books have. Although there are over 24,000 manuscripts for the Bible, it is still the book that gets attacked the most (Tackett et al, 2011). My faith definitely relates to history. I would never want this part of history rewritten. God is the creator of everything. To me, history means His story; God is a huge part of history. He encountered things in the past that someone transcribed into a book, known as the Bible. I am now able to utilize this book by living the life that God wants me to live. An individual’s past determines his/her present. I have encountered things in my past that have taught me valuable lessons. Some have been good things that I would do again, while others were not so good, and I would not
When I think of historical revisionism, I think of slavery. I have been taught that slavery was a part of history and, for some, a way of life. I have had a college professor tell me that slavery wasn’t that bad, the slaves weren’t beaten like some people thought, and they were treated well. This tells me that slavery is definitely being rewritten. I know from what I have been taught through history that slavery wasn’t good. Many of them died getting to the United States, but those who didn’t were put on a raised platform, and auctioned for monetary value. Slavery is an awful part of our history, but it occurred.
