Are We Alone? : Discovering Life on Other Planets Habitable Zone and The Drake Equation
A habitable zone, which is also known as the Goldilocks Zone, is basically a region where there is a probability in finding the extraterrestrial life. The finding is based on the temperature and the pressure of a certain planetary-mass objects. When the temperature is between 273K and 373K, there will be presence of water that can support the extraterrestrial life to live in that zone. Tau Ceti which is 12 light years from Earth lies in this region. The habitable zone in the universe can be presented in the Figure 1 as shown below.

The probability is then presented in an equation which is called Drake Equation. It is used to estimate the number of active, communicative civilizations in Milky Way, not far beyond that. It was formulated in the year 1961 by Frank Drake and is generally accepted by the scientific society. The Drake Equation is represented as shown below in Figure 1.

The application of the equation could be useful to estimate the possibility of intelligent life to be on certain exoplanets. Since 1992, 506 exoplanets had been discovered to have extraterrestrial life. The discoveries about the Habitable Zone proves us that this zone can support intelligent ET civilizations as the planets and the stars are heated in this region at an optimum temperature for living things to live on. With the high possibility of having water in this area, it gives faith for extraterrestrial life to really exist on Tau Ceti e which is the fourth exoplanet from Tau
