Drugs are a major problem in the United States and this is clearly shown by the two million Americans addicted to some sort of drug. Prisons are full for the way we take action on people who abuse drugs. We should look at how we view drugs and how we react when we arrest someone who is abusing them. We should send them to rehab to get help not throw them in a jail cell then later release them out because most likely they are going to go back into jail. We should send them to rehab or some sort of treatment to where they are shown that they can live without drugs, we could show them how to get jobs this would help them get back on their feet.

Also we need to educate youth more about how drugs affect your mind and your body. We need to bring back D.A.R.E but we need to bring it back stronger tell the kids what it does to your family or what will most likely will happen to their life if they continue to go down the wrong road. We should have schools really connect with kids if they are using drugs and not get mad at them really help them out, show them the right way.
It’s good to have a response to drugs, but we should really look at the ways we view it and act on it. Doing drugs is bad, yes but the punishment for doing drugs is a little too harsh for people that abuse drugs.Obviously they need help but they need a special kind of help that's why I think we should look at the ideas that Portugal has. We could learn from them get ideas from them and put our own spin on it. even if it was a failure at least we tried and that's what's important knowing that we have tried to do something about a major issue in the United
