Composition Two
Drunk Driving
October 02, 2012
We as American can save more lives by not driving while under the influences. Setting a good example for our children in today’s world we need to be a good role model. Driving and drinking are not a good fit. DUI could possibly screw up your life and others. Now is losing your driver license and going to jail really worth it. Drunk driving has been a major problem among American people. Every single year American drive their cars one out of two thousand trips are taken by somebody driving under the influences. Several of the drunken driving crash, injuries, death is done by repeat offenders. Drinking and driving not only endangers your life, …show more content…
it endangers the lives of the innocent victims whose path you cross.
As American we all can have opinions about driving under the influences but unless we stand up and fight for change nothing going to happen.
In our community are programs to help stop the influences of drunk driving to prevent deaths and injuries. We need to talk our teenager about the important of not drinking while under age. As well the important of driving while under the influences and the effects of this bad habit. That is what MADD, SADD, RID, and mother against drunk driving are trying to achieve among the American people. Just with a little help from those around us and police the laws regarding drunk driving can be improved for the better because just taking away their licenses isn’t enough: 50-75% of them just drive away. In 1980, 21,000 people died from driving under the influences. Since 1980 the deaths and injuries have increased as well decreased over time. But not enough why because in 2011 nearly 32,228 people were involved with drunk driving. We need those numbers to be slower year after year, which can be done if people would just be responsible about drinking and driving. In all 50 states have laws about drunk driving but their two many repeat offenders and not enough action taken against …show more content…
them.
Although drunken driving causes serious issue among the American people, they can never forget about the victims from impaired driving accidents have formed support groups. Study has shown those drunk drivers is males and get convicted for less than 2 years. While 80% of all offenders indicated a desire to refrain from drinking and driving (Kimberly badovinac, pg. 117).
The organization MADD in 2010 helped 63,000 victims and survivors nationwide. The family of the victims and survivors of drunken driving accident go through a rough patch on the financial side. Because of medical bills, prescription and funeral expenses can take a heavy toll. Underage drinking has been a problem for years now and because of SADD over 25,000 lives has been saved in the U.S. thanks to the 21 years legal drinking age. This law continues to prevent tragedies decreasing crashes by an estimated 16 % and keeping young people safe (mother against drunk driving 2012).
Drunk driving what not do is something that we all should keep in mind.
Organization like MADD, SADD, and RID, are helping to put a stop to drunk driving for all age groups. The mother against drunk driving have been making their case known for the past five years in order to remove under influence driver off the road. Thanks to the efforts more police resources have been directed against drunken driving (H. Laurence Ross). In forcing more road blocks, penalties have been increased and plea bargaining put in place. Having this law in place will help against the fight of drunk driving. Why because drinking and driving not only endangers your life, it endangers the lives of the innocent victims whose path you
cross.
Drunk driving is no accident-nor is it a victim less crime. Every year we continue to see far too many people suffer debilitating injuries or the loss of their loved ones as a result of impaired driving. This careless, vicious cycle must come to an end. What will it take for Americans to understand the dangers of driving while impaired? When is enough, enough? Where is the outrage? There must be an urgency to remove impaired drivers from our nation’s roads. Driving impaired is just not worth the risk. Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for impaired driving can be significant. Violators often face jail time, the loss of their driver’s license, higher insurance rates, attorney fees, time away from work, and dozens of other expenses.
We only here about another drunk driving accident. But never the victims or families of drunk driving. For every drunk driving theirs are victims, if you look at the statistics many die on impact and others survive but have a lifetime of medical issues and fears to overcome. In 2009 roughly around 181 children were killed because of drunk driving. A mother was accused of crashing a car when under the influences. She had five young children in the car and Amy Mullin was charged with child endangerment, criminal vehicular operation as well two counts of dui. Thank goodness there was no body injured during this drink and driving. Drinking and driving are bad enough but when their children in the car, it should really be a felony offenses.
Driving reckless in Washington DC can lead to some major criminal charges. Depending on weather it’s your 1, 2, 3 offenses can reflect on what charges you will face. Under the laws in Washington dc the 1st dui offense is 90 days in jail, fine 300 to 1,000 dollars, and suspended licensed 6 months. The 2nd dui offense is 1 year in jail, fine 1,000 to 5,000 dollars, suspense licensed 1 year. The 3rd dui offense 1 year in jail, fine 2,000 to 10,000 dollars, suspense licensed 2 years. Driving under the influence has taken many people lives since 1991 and present. In 2010 alone 10,228 people died because of drunk driving. Since 1991 drunken driving fatalities have decreased 35% from 15,827 in 1991.
