In Football you will require cardio vascular endurance to last a full 90 minutes of football. You will surely in the game defend and attack, sometimes you may have to do fast and long recovery runs within the game and make repeated runs to support your team mates.
‘Loads of running allows oxygenated blood to travel through your body for longer durations. When you start to exercise/expend more energy than normal, your body demands more oxygen. The longer you can provide oxygenated blood to your body, the longer you can perform.’ This specific information was given from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_do_you_need_cardiovascular_endurance_in_football.
Agility is also needed in football to quickly change direction. For example when 1v1 with a player, you need agility to change direction and accelerate away from the defender in order to go forward and score goals. Agility can be used to losing a defender, creating space for yourself and teammates. This creates good goal scoring opportunities.
Balance is required as a key fitness factor for achieving excellence in football. Players need this because they are moving and adjusting their body position constantly. For example when defending a low cross, the defender needs the balance to adjust his feet and attack the ball by sliding on the floor. If there is no balance within his attempted clearance, he is more likely to miss the ball which can lead to the opposition scoring a goal. Another example is if a striker is trying to attack the ball in the air to score a goal, the defender will definitely be on his case and attempt to win the header which means he will do everything he can to prevent the striker from gaining contact of the ball i.e. barge the striker or pull his shirt. The striker must have balance to get off the ground and attack the ball cleanly without losing its stance or get muscled off by the defender.
