Dual-Credit Composition
I have been through many years of English courses, grammar courses, and even foreign languages, but none have been as beneficial as this Dual-Credit Composition I class. Over this course, there has been nothing but positive influence to both my writing skills and my creativity. This improvement could not have come without the practice of writing five full papers, and each paper consisted of an outline, rough draft, and final copy. Since this is a dual-credit course, I can reap the benefit of not having to take Composition I in college. Without the constant guidance of my teacher, Mrs. Brenda Key, none of these opportunities would have been available for my taking. Through taking a part in this Dual-Credit Composition I course, I have made major …show more content…
During this course, I have developed a more comprehensive vocabulary. While writing many different papers on a variety of different topics, I was exposed to exotic words, broadening my vocabulary. A more diverse vocabulary helped me to describe events to a further extent. Different papers called for different points of view. I wrote papers in first person, second person, and third person. This helped me to exercise my writing skills. By writing in different perspectives, I was forced to changed verb tenses to match the nouns. Now, it seems as if writing in these other points of view is second nature, and I expect this to benefit me in the long run, since papers in college will be written from many points of view. I learned how to incorporate different levels of sentence structures throughout my paper, ranging from simple sentences to compound-complex sentences. It is important to have a variety of sentence types in a paper, because it can add depth to a paper. A paper with a spectrum of sentence structures is more desirable to read than a sentence with the same structure constantly being repeated. I have recently noticed in my writings, I am slowly moving away from making the majority of my sentences simple. A new depth has been added to how I write, which was not present …show more content…
I wish I could say that I completely fixed my problems with punctuation, but I cannot. Still, I am happy saying that I have improved the problem and continually try to make it as minuscule as possible. In class, I have been given many punctuation and grammar packets, which has helped me to improve my punctuation skills. In this course, I have properly learned how to use semicolons, and I have been taught when and where to use commas. Resulting from my punctuational benefits, my papers flow better, as they are being read. In conclusion, this course has been nothing but beneficial. My writing procedure and my technical writing skills reflect the benefits I have received, which never would have been without my active participation in this Dual-Credit Composition I course. I now know that I am capable of writing college level papers, and hopefully, I will put this hard earned skill to good use. Now that my writing skills are on a new level, I can use what this course has taught me in years to

Writing three different types of papers helped me to improve my Rhetorical Knowledge. In my past I have written many research papers, however, I have little experience writing personal narratives or rhetorical analysis papers. This class gave me the opportunity to practice both forms of writing. I feel more confident writing a personal narrative or rhetorical analysis than I previously did. I also understand different rhetorical situations, which is critical in developing a strong paper.…

After enrolling in the Dual Credit English Composition 1 class, I was afraid of many aspects of the course. I was petrified of meaningless things: deadlines, word counts, and plagiarism. Although each of those aspects are important to consider and be mindful of, they are, in no way, anything to worry over. I lost confidence in myself and my writing, through my own frightening thoughts. Almost a full semester into the class, I know now that through hard work and careful, in depth writing that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to. I learned that my silly fears were restraining me from accomplishing great things. I was able to overcome many obstacles pertaining to my writing, while in this class. One major obstacle that I was able to overcome and improve myself greatly on was transitioning; I ask myself, “How was I able to improve my transitioning skills in just one semester?” but the answer is quite clear: practice.…

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

The strategies that I would use to overcome the challenges are; First, to have a clear thesis I need to have paragraphs that relate clearly to the thesis sentence. Also relating clearly to the thesis of the paper. By having the thesis sentence at the beginning, where it can help the reader understand how the point being made fits into the purpose of the paper. Like that taking care of not having a clear thesis. A strategy to help not have fragment sentences is to learn what a subject and a verb are. To make a complete sentence you need both a subject and a verb. There are many sources to help figure out what is the subject and the verb if needed. Finally, my strategy to help with grammar issues is by having a handbook to help me chose the correct words. For example: do I use “Who or…

I now struggle less coming up with my body paragraphs because I have a list of ideas of what each paragraph will be about. As with spelling and fragments I still make mistakes. I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t have grammar errors. However, I try to minimize it as much as possible, by going over my paper more than once and by having someone other than myself read it and revise it because chances are they can catch an error that you might have missed or didn’t see.…
