With her insufficient reading capabilities, she cannot perform on the subjects of math and science either. From the developmental perspective, her dyslexia caused significant interference with overall academic performance and resulted in substantial developmental delay. In the regular school system, the labeling for her need in special education or training might bring her stigma and the feeling of inferiority. This might diminish her strength in other areas and thus undermine her strong sociality and likability among classmates. In the longer term, the frustration in catching up with the expected academic performance possibly result in low self-esteem. While working with Gisela, it is critical to reinforce her strength in social, art and music as the protective factors to balance her weakness in spelling and reading.
