ENG 101E Reflection
In the past, I was always afraid to write essays because I knew I was not capable enough to write a decent essay. However, now that I have taken both ENG 101E and 101F I feel more confident in my writing skills. During this experience, I have learned how to write better by including my own ideas and also including more detail in my writing. By taking ENG 101E, I already felt more confident with my writing, but now that it is the end of ENG 101F I think I have improved even more.

Personally, I think Writing Project 3B is my best essay because in that essay I was able to address the audience, but also I think I was able to add enough detail to emphasize the problem with poverty. In the essay, I talked about why poverty is such a huge problem

I had a hard time writing about Mike Rose’s credibility without including the words “I think” or “I believe”. The essay was suppose to be focused on Mike Rose’s credibility based on the text, so that was so something I had a hard time with while writing the essay. However, I still think that I tried my best with stating his credibility by talking about his past and also his understanding about blue-collar workers.
In the essay, I used Mike Rose’s mother as an example to show how he was credible to talk about blue-collar workers and their intelligence. I used other examples from his life such as his study with blue-collar workers and their working skills. “Rose gives evidence from his study about how the blue-collar workers have certain skills such as speech, mathematical, and literacy.” I used examples such as these to show Rose’s credibility for the topic. However, because the information about his family and research were very repetitive it made it hard for me to expand on many of the ideas I had. Even though, I thought this was my weakest essay I still believe that it is much stronger than what I had before I came into ENG101E or

The following are three essays that I worked on during the semester. Most of it remains the same, while some of my ideas have developed. The only major changes made were redirecting the ideas in the Where is Waldo Now essay. In English 1102 I struggled with a lot, Professor Grant really challenged what I thought I knew about writing. Being that English is my second language, language barriers normally do not reflect in my speech or writing. I felt that this semester really showed me that I still had work to do. Passive voice, comma slices, forming arguments, and grammar are some of the many skills that I worked on during this semester. I attended the Writing Center as often as I could; I also asked questions during office hours. I worked on perfecting these skills in my other classes as well by reading out loud. By exploring these different options my essay grades improved 15 points. Hopefully my portfolio and future papers reflects the time and practice I’ve put into my writing.…

In all honesty the first draft needed a lot of work, the first thing I revised on my paper was the thesis. I did not read the assignment instructions properly the first time, causing my entire easy to be focused on a completely different topic than what was asked. Then I took Professor Astocio’s e-mail comments into consideration and included in my essay why people should care about this argument. My peers suggested Bryan Stevenson should be mentioned in the first paragraph instead of the second, their advice was useful. Altering my first paragraph allowed me to focus my attention on the ways Stevenson used rhetoric, rather than on him personally and a summary of the things mentioned in his Ted Talk. Finally, the last things I revised included…

Equally important, the author gives supporting evidence to her essay, whether it is a false statement that may seem true, or her own personal experiences. To make her evidence believable, she gives a good example of her own child struggling in school, but is led back on track by failure. For instance, she states that, “Our youngest….did little to develop his intellectual talents but always got by. Until Mrs. Stifter.”(Pg.502) This excerpt is an excellent example that shows that a good piece of evidence can really persuade a…

Reflection. I feel that the capstone 01 unit is very different to all the other subjects I studied at the Swinburne university so far. Activities that I contributed and are yet to contribute seems very interesting and significant in some ways both to my education and social knowledge. I am placed in a group where there are students from different nationalities and ages. In my opinion I believe that being able to actively participate in such a diverse group will definitely encourage me to sharpen some of my study techniques.…

English 101 however, helped me improved the areas in which I was weak in from high school. Before, it was difficult to find the bigger meaning of an article, poem, or any form of writing in general. However, with the help from taking this course I was able to figure out how to add meaning to the essay. I also learned how to add evidence and analysis them better in my body paragraphs as well. It was difficult in the past, but now I gained skills such as outlining, writing rough drafts and the organization needed for a successful essay. I hope in English 102 that I will use my English 101 skills and be even more skilled in my essay writing. I also hope to learn more about adding evidence within the paragraphs and honing in the essay to make it all flow together. Also in English 102 I hope that I will learn to be more confident with my essays. I have talked in a couple of assignments where my confidence makes me question whether or not to add certain analysis into essays which sometimes may have made my grade not as good as it could have been. In English 102, I hope I will not question myself as much and show more confidence. I also wish to eliminate repetition in English 102. I have received many comments that I repeat my analysis a lot and that also cuts of some points of my grade. I need to continue the analysis more rather than just repeat it in a different way. With these two core English classes that I have/will take, I know that my foundation in writing will be…

To start off with, the overall environment of being part of an AP/IB English class all throughout high school has made a positive affect on me. This has not only affected my familiarization with college level essays but I know what is expected from a higher level english course. As I have mentioned in my previous essay, I have written papers that were up to seventeen pages long. When I was in high school I often thought, why do I have to write so much, it would annoy me that every month was a new essay, now the idea of writing a lengthy paper has…

What I liked about your writing was your perception, clarity and being concise. As well as the other five C’s of communication, including concrete, correct, coherent, complete, and courteous. As a reader, I believe you wrote to your audience and touched upon the purpose. You did so in such a way, that I later read an article and thought the relevance of your research topic. Please see below. You wrote a phrase on examining the workforce in America. The interaction with your writing also reminded me of Robinson (2011), “The War For Talent” (p. 70). Clearly, educational information catches my attention, as did your purpose. As my focus of writing continues to enhance, the need for me to learn from journalism and peers review in my own…

I have been a student at Northern Michigan University for one year now as well as English 111 for one semester, and for that time being I have grown and learned so much more than I could have imagined. It was a rough road coming into college not really know a lot about english, especially with having a pretty elementary writing style. It was during my “Biographies of Things” research paper, I learned to do powerful research as well as open-minded voice, but I still need work on the structure and transitions in my papers.…
