Teachers coordinate plans with a school counselor so that they may keep track of academic progress, as information is addressed to the parents. However, if the child shows no improvement in all subject areas, the source of the problem must be found elsewhere.
CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES: Child protective services (CPS) must be involved when teachers are suspicious of child abuse and child sexual abuse. Teachers collaborate with CPS for the safety and protection of the child. Because teachers spend 30 hours a week with a child, teachers are able to provide valuable information of suspicious abuse. It is within the best interests that the child will not face danger or harm when the child is at home. As part of an ethical code that teachers must comply to, it is also their obligation as mandated reporters of the law.
