Edgar Allan Poe Satire

After penning this poem, Ralph Waldo Emerson labeled Poe, the jingle man. Poe, however, retorted by explicating his poetic methodology, in his essay, The Philosophy of Composition. In it, the author explained why his poems techniques were the most enduring in literature. He spent his life refusing to appease the people who could help him most and he defied social custom, time and again. Rufus Griswold was merely the by-product of Poe’s personality he became the literary executor of the writer once he had died and meticulously set out ruining Poe’s reputation.
