Effective Communication
For the past six weeks being back in the classroom has help me to shift my focus when it comes to communicating. There was a point and time when I felt like what I said and how I said it was the only thing that mattered. However, I have learned throughout this course that Communicating an authentic self requires consistency between your presentation of self and your self – concept. Our presentation of self depends on whom we are communicating with and is called facework (Dobkin (2006). Communication in a Changing World). In this essay, I am prepared to show evidence of how I have learned to communicate better as well as the things that I need to improve within my methods of communication. After reviewing my Personal Skills Inventory Chart, I am not where I want to be but I am better than what I use to be six weeks ago. These changes will not happen overnight but, I am bound to improve them prior to me advancing to my next level as a student of Walden University. My grandmothers always use to tell us that there are three sides to every story, your story, the other person story and then the truth. This old age theory still holds truth when communicating whether, it’s online or face-to-face. I have learned that in order for me to be effective in communicating that I have to be face-to-face with an individual so that the other person would be able to see and notice the sincerity that I pose within the conversation. While communicating face-to-face, I can feel assured that my point is being communicated with validity as well as the other person(s) can know that I have received their message as well. I have notice that when online I can hide my true feelings, emotions and persona. The hidden quadrant represents those things that you know about yourself but that others do not (Dobkin (2006). Communication in a Changing World) is what I find that I am able to hide behind when communication online. When communicating online whether if it

I have worked with my current employer for six months. I work with clients with a learning disability, within a supported housing setting. My current job role is as a ‘care assistant’. I am responsible for providing support to the service user’s, which includes: Personal care, assisting with meal preparation, assisting with medication, assisting with meal planning, and maintaining records for service delivered. I received an induction training course when I first joined the company, which provided specialised training relating to the learning disability sector. I receive regular supervision with my line manager, where I can discuss any problems, and get support. I can also request training, and my manager can highlight areas where she thinks I would benefit from further training in. I attend regular refresher courses in training, so that I am up to date with the current standards required for my role. I treat all service users with respect and dignity, and my work practices reflect and promote equal opportunities. I have read, and understand my Company’s policies and procedures, and am aware of what to do in most circumstances, and the correct reporting/recording procedures to follow. I always work in a professional manner, and ensure all service user information is kept up to date, and confidential.…

An organizational model, also called an organizational structure, defines an organization through its framework, including lines of authority, communications, duties and resource allocations. A model is driven by the organization’s goals and serves as the context in which processes operate and business is done. The ideal model depends on the nature of the business and the challenges it faces. In turn, the model determines the number of employees needed and their required skill sets. An organizational model is summarized in an organizational chart and regularly analyzed by management (Chinn, Dianne).…

    I. Interpersonal communication can be defined a number of ways, but it is usually described as communication between or among connected persons or those in a close relationship. I have really been able to examine my own interpersonal communication, between and among the people I am connected to or have close relationship with, over that last few weeks. Prior to this course, I felt my interpersonal communication skills were above average and very effective. However, I have discovered there are many ways I can improve my interpersonal communications and relationships with others. Through the exercises conducted during this course I have realized that I need to work on my effective listening, perception of others and how my nonverbal cues can cause barriers to interpersonal communication. I will describe the barriers I have created and how I have resolved them over the past few weeks. Understanding my own shortcomings in communication, and attempting to resolve them, has helped me improve my current and future relationships with other.…

I took the self-perceived communication competence scale twice, once to determine how I would communicate face to face and the second time in an online setting. I make decisions with regard to communication which my observation is important. I think this scale measures my perceived competence. Let me explain the differences and similarities when communicating face to face and in an online setting. One situation asked about talking to a group of strangers. I would be more comfortable talking to strangers online rather than in person. I have to be careful when communicating with people face to face. I might not want to say the wrong thing or my body language will probably show if I dislike a conversation or disagree with someone. Now chatting online, I won’t be…

Communication is one of the most used tools in society. In fact, the average person sends between 100 and 300 messages per day. (McCaskill) Defined by Robbins and Judge (2013) as “the transfer and understanding of meaning” communication has an impact on each and every relationship we have, regardless of the length. (p. 665) Communication is the way that we provide information to others, both intentionally and unintentionally. Due to the significant impact that communication has on every relationship, personal, professional or otherwise, it is important that the communication is effective.…
