Right now it may not seem like a big deal about who is your neighbor is or if you have a big yard. But back in 1960’s where discrimination was a big thing where there was racism still among us. If you were African American, Mexican or not American you would be discriminated against. Now what you’re thinking discrimination as in not letting people go into the same schools, not letting them eat at a restaurant with each other. You’re thinking of segregation and so on. But would you ever think about how African Americans would be put in different sections of a community, not getting the same equality as far as where garbage facilities are located and where other chemical companies are located and where their waste goes. Not only did people discriminate against African Americans but so did army and government. But they did not want to make it obvious so the author Dorceta E. I would totally recommend the book for everyone to read. It is a good read it brings up problems we still see in our communities today. We are all against racism and discrimination but it’s higher than we know, we see zoning and minorities stuck in one area while the privileged are in another area. Also where African Americans are in one area and every other race is split apart. Also the author very well points out differences in our communities and how racial profiling we see all across the United States and everyone is affected. Also how it shapes the environmental communities and how people that are different color are more exposed to this than another other people. Another reason why people should read this book is because I feel like that Dorceta the author is well qualified for the research and the book she has written. She has degrees in environmental sociology and philosophy which just helps her out more. Also she has done many research projects and focuses on green jobs, social inequality, poverty and urban problems and so much more. Overall everyone should read a book like this and look at what the minorities have been dealing with for over
