You may have heard a phrase like, “70 is the new 50.” There are large numbers of seniors living into their 80s and 90s. Estate taxation and planning has become a bigger concern, especially for baby boomers. There is a wide range of laws regarding the elderly and disabled. The law of the elderly and disabled has become more complex in recent years. Lawyers and financial planners who specialize in elder law assist with matters affecting the autonomy of elderly people, personal and financial matters, matters regarding wills, trusts, healthcare directives, power of attorney, to name a few. As with most problems in the areas of estate and financial planning, advance planning can help resolve many of the financial and tax problems that the elderly and disabled may be faced with.…

What would a society look like without healthy elderly individuals? The elderly compose a large portion of the population, and many people do not realize how vulnerable and unsafe old age can be. It is difficult for elderly people to live out the later stage in their lives without protection and prevention of certain problems. An act that I will discuss is The Elder Justice Act of 2009. Baby boomers represent 29% of the U.S. population. This year these kids would be between forty-six and sixty-four years old. These children were born during a great social change in America. These social changes, including music and events, greatly affected this generation. Kids born in the earlier years of the baby boom generation lived to see the deaths of President Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Vietnam War. However those born in the later years had no part in any of these events, they were most likely exposed to illegal drugs, and they weren’t subjected to the military draft.
