Culture strongly influences a person's communication pattern and behaviour (Wood 2004, p. 210). Organisations are increasingly required to deal with suppliers, customers and staff from various cultural backgrounds. Therefore, Cross-cultural communication plays an important role in the workplace. The attention to contextual information varies greatly depending on culture. Hight-context cultures tend to supply very little information within messages but expect participants complete those using the context. Inversely, low-context cultures, use a more direct, brusque and explicit way of communicating (Adair, Buchan & Dong Liu 2009, p. 4). In general, it is the responsibility of the communicator to adapt to the host culture. However, in practice, it is not always feasible. When communicating in a foreign language, the user's fluency will limit his message understanding and delivery. The ability to adapt to one's cultural communication style is therefore crucial (Hsieh, 2011, p. 286). For the Hospitality specialists, it has even more significance as they are required to deal not only with customers but also co-workers from various cultural backgrounds.
