Over the years, the world has seen an ever increasing rate of environmental awareness and care for the well-being of the planet in the general public (Cohen). Efforts relating to the safety and well-being of the environment have become more prevalent and common. In order to combat the rapidly declining state of the environment, as well as influence consumers to become environmentally charged, Elon Musk has led the initiative towards a better future. Through the advancement of eco-friendly technologies, developed by his own companies, especially SpaceX, SolarCity, and Tesla Motors, Musk is creating a lasting impact on our society. By revamping environmental assistance and completely altering the obstinate fuel industries through creating a sustainable alternative, Elon Musk has integrated environmental awareness into contemporary society, therefore becoming a catalyst for change. SpaceX, a manufacturer of aeronautic and spacecraft has been dedicated to creating opportunities for future generations through its Mars program. Elon has developed cost-effective reusable rockets in order to complete frequent missions to space and its planets. Elon has taken special interest in Mars and the colonization of the red planet. The reason for his colonization of Mars ties to the long term survival of humanity (Heath). Elon believes that due to the chance of something happening on or to Earth, a long term failsafe needed to protect the remnants of humanity. Musk likens it to backing up a hard drive and similarly, backing up life on earth (Heath).
