Employee Handbook
Employee handbooks are important forms of communication between you the employer and your employees. The handbook provides valuable resources in reference to the employee job description and expectations from the employee. The handbook also has valuable information for the employee in regards to federal and state laws that protect you as the employee. There are specific ways to handle each type of law described in the handbook and each person is responsible for following the rules. The employee handbook is important because it informs the employees what is expected of them in workplace. The employee handbook also allows the employees to know that they have rights and who to seek if they feel they have been violated discriminated or harassed. Some of the information you can find helpful in the employee handbook are as follow:
Non-discrimination issues: Every handbook should contain a non-discrimination policy and all employers should abide by the law. The policy should state that the employer is an “equal opportunity employer” and that the employer does not discriminate against age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, and disability (sheliagoss.com/2010). The policy should also state what is prohibited in the workplace, not excluding harassment in the form of sexual harassment, racial harassment, or sexual preference.
Organizations position in response to nondiscrimination. In an employee handbook employer must see to it that in the handbook it is clear that organization will not tolerate insubordinate, condone, or support discrimination of any type. Organizations must do an investigation of accusations brought to them of discrimination, and follow the necessary rule of conduct provided by the employment discrimination act
