This often leads us to see the world as we are taught to see it. This is also the case with Ender, when he is tricked into being the commander of the third Bugger invasion. Although he did not realize it at the time, he is ultimately betrayed by his own kind because he was taught to expect battle games, not a real life battle. Even though he faced many challenges, which shaped his character, none were as difficult as finding out he had killed an entire race. Ender was never told that he was not practicing with a simulator anymore, so it was not his fault for killing them, but this emotional difficulty changed his character
