Introduction
Several years ago energy drinks barley existed. Not all people were familiar of it. People who consumed it did not understand the bad health effects behind it. This is because they were not as popular as it is today. Nowadays, energy beverages markets grew rapidly in recent years. There are many different brands of this drink in the world today. These beverages have caused many health problems to those who consume them. One group affected by the high consumption of energy drinks are children. The increase of the popularity of these beverages has been dangerous for people’s health. This essay will argue that energy drinks should be banned. Its sales reached $3.147 million in 2013 and sold in 114 countries around the world. The main ingredients of it are glucose, taurine, carbonated water, B vitamins, sucrose, ginseng, and guarana. Another energy drink that has high sales is Rockstar. It was founded in 2001 in San Francisco and owned by Russ Weiner. Rockstar was designed to make people more hyper. Its main ingredients include sucrose, taurine, guarana, carbonated water, and caffeine. Like Red Bull and Monster, Rock star sales growth has increased dramatically as it was $281 million sales in 2013. (Fontinelle,2014). The energy drinks market has been growing rapidly even though it leads to negative health problems. This is because energy beverages contain harmful substances such as taurine, guarana, and ginseng. According to Breda (2014), Taking guarana, ginseng, and taurine together in the typical energy beverage might cause potential diseases such as type two diabetes, hypertension, nausea, vomiting, and in rare cases even death. Additionally, energy beverages that are high in caffeine might affect the heart rate. Consuming large doses of caffeine might raise the blood pressure and cause irregular heartbeat.
