English 111 Reflective Report
My biggest improvement in English 111 was setting up my papers. The class has taught me how to plan out my writing for my papers. One technique that has helped my improve my writing is learning how to set up an outline and apply the information to my paper. Before I started attending this class, I had no idea how to set up my papers and I did not know how to create an outline. Since I started this class, I know how to properly organize my paper using an appropriate outline. I have also improved my time management while taking this course. I have finished all of my assignments on time. My overall performance for the class began with having a difficult time to improving on an abundance in different areas. In the end, I have gained a great deal of knowledge while attending this course. One aspect of the class that I have been on track on is my attendance. I have been to every class and I have not left early at all. I have also participated during class For an example, I …show more content…
Two areas in which my progress has increased is completing peer reviews and writing conventions. I was very comfortable in completing my peer reviews when we did complete them. Now I feel that I can give more detailed feedback, from the feedback I have received during the semester. I have grown in this area from receiving information and feedback from my essays during my conferences. Also, paper raters feedback has helped me help others. I have always done good on my writing conventions, I thought. Spelling has not been a problem while taking this class, my grammar and punctuation have been the problem. I installed Grammarly onto my computer at the beginning of the semester, which has helped me tremendously on my grammar and some on my punctuation. Paper Rater has helped me tremendously on my punctuation. Paper Rater and Grammarly has helped me place commas and semi-colons and etc., in the right

I believe that the major objective of English 111 is to practice different substantial skills that will help you increase your writing abilities. These skills will prepare students when they’re expressing thoughts, feelings, viewpoints, and information orally or on paper. In my opinion, the most important central concept communicated in the syllabus is the Course Schedule. I will constantly be marking off the assignments that I have already completed so that I know which ones I have left to complete. It’s extremely important to be well organized and to always keep up with when the work is due. If you get too far behind, it’ll end up being too much work to catch up on. Being proficient is key to success in this class. The only question that…

English 1101 was not like I expected. I came into the class thinking this was going to the hardest class I have ever taken. Turns out that the class was one of the easiest subjects I have taken this semester. There were only a few essays that had to be written which was good and bad thing at the same time. My grade was pleasing considering the fact that I am only a sophomore in high school. The class will be every beneficial in the future; when it is all over I will appreciate taking the course. While the structure of the class was not put together well, the English 1101 class turned out to be manageable.…

ENG101 has taught me the importance of using references and how using the proper writing guidelines can improve someone’s writings. Using references establishes that the thoughts and information that you are providing is accurate and true. When using the proper writing guidelines it helps one put their thoughts into proper order and make sense of what is being said. Using the guidelines also assists in making the writing process not so daunting, by breaking it up into smaller pieces. My writing goals for my next writing course would be to improve on the skills that I have gained while taking this course. I will use more references and the writing guidelines to make my writing the best it can be and not such a daunting task. I need to improve on using better grammar and spelling. I forget where to use commas a lot of the time. Overall, I feel that I did well in this course and learned some valuable tools to take with me to assist in other courses that I will take, as well as my working environment.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

Although I have learned a variety of things, my skills when it comes to writing still need improvement., Skills, such as proper grammar, still need some adjustment. Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

My writing process has greatly changed throughout the course of this class. Starting at the beginning in August, I came into class rather cocky. I did not take the time to go over all of Dr. Trollinger’s comments on my rough draft and make multiple drafts. I was a victim of extreme procrastination. I had always excelled as an English / Rhetoric student in high school so I just assumed it would be a breeze. This was not the case. I completely and totally tanked the first paper. Because of this, I decided to greatly alter my writing process. This decision extremely benefited my future papers. I, now, take time to go over each and every draft, marking my mistakes as I go. I start papers rather early so I can take the paper piece by piece, reworking as I go. On each draft, Dr. T turns back, I print them out and write out what I need and don’t need to do. This has…

My former English professor would always say “find a way 101”, whenever a student found themselves struggling in her class. At first I did not understand why she was so rude to her students, this was until after I graduated high school when I realized I was wrong. She was not rude, she was not mean, she was preparing her students for college level English classes. Reflecting on my past encounter with the toughest teacher at my former high school, I can say I feel prepared for a college level class. Although I may have taken the most rigorous class in high school, that does not mean I am expected to pass without falling short. However, I am certain that I am ready for the challenges that my professor will assign me in the fall.…

Throughout the year, my writing has had significant improvements, compared to where I began. First, I began this semester fairly confident in my writing abilities. I thought that I had a strong grasp on writing concepts that include: transition words, literary devices, proper grammar techniques, correct paper writing format. In contrast, I felt that I began the year with a weak vocabulary, which has always been one of my weaker areas, If I were to rank myself on day one of class, without knowing all of the material we were going to cover, I would rank my writing skills an eight out of ten.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

To begin with, my punctuation has gotten a lot better. I made a lot of errors during the beginning of the year and I am starting to make a lot less. Also, my thesis statements have gotten tremendously better. At the beginning of the year they were really boring. As the year began to progress, the statements got more interesting and creative. My analysis throughout essays have gotten better. I am much better now at determining things like theme, tone, and finding many literary devices. I can also set up my essays better and create smoother transitions. When I find the theme now, I can point it out much easier after learning about it this year and having a better understanding of what it is. When it comes to tone, I understand it so much better now. When we began learning about it I didn’t understand but after we received a chart about different types of tones it helped me so much. When I started English this year, I knew some of the basic literary devices like simile, metaphor, and personification; but with the knowledge I have gained this year, I can use and find things like hyperbole, onomonopea, assonance, and so on.…
