Episodic Acute Stress
This type of stress is very common. It is caused by the demands and pressure of the past or of the future. This type of stress can be exciting and thrilling in small doses. However it can also be exhausting if it is to much. Some types of acute stress can be from a car accident, a deadline for a project at school that you are rushing to meet, a child and or an adult getting bullied. The most common symptoms are emotional , anger, depression and being irritated. Muscular problems such as headaches, back pain, jaw pain can cause muscular tensions that can lead to pulled muscles on ligament problems. Stomach and bowel problems such as heartburn, acid stomach , constipation and irritable bowel syndrome are temporary responses that can also lead …show more content…
They cannot get organized with the demands and pressure for their attention and would describe themselves as having "nervous energy." They are always in a hurry and can be very abrupt which can come across as being hostile. Another type of episodic acute stress is known as "worry warts."They see the world as a dangerous place and disaster is around every corner. The symptoms for episodic acute stress are tension headaches, migraines, chest pain, and heart disease. This can be treated with extensive medical care and a diagnosis from a …show more content…
You can feel nervous and anxiety by attending a formal, giving a speech at a wedding or presenting to your peers both in leading up and during an event. These people who have social phobia fear that they are being judged, criticized, laughed at and humiliated in front of other people.
Specific phobia
This phobia is a fear of a certain situation, activities, animals or objects. People can feel anxious when they are faced with spiders, ants, snakes, heights and even flying. They feel that it poses a threat to their safety. The reaction or feeling by individuals with this phobia usually imagine, exaggerate or are not rational. In other words they panic and fear the worst. They tend to blow the actual threat out of proportion. These types of reaction is usually caused by a specific phobia. These people know that their fears are exaggerated and not rational however the feeling of being anxious is an automatic reaction. Panic attacks are associated with this phobia and a person may experience a pounding heart, dizziness, chest pain and hot/cold

    The purpose of this paper is to define and explain the acute stress response and acute stress disorder. Clarify the differences between the two conditions and offer review of treatments and symptoms associated with both. Therapies and interventions are reviewed and explored for effectiveness in resolving symptoms and preventing post-traumatic stress disorder. The acute stress response (ASR) refers to psychological and physiological responses to stressful events. These responses are displayed by emotional, cognitive, and behavioral changes. Somatic symptoms and symptoms of mental illness can also be seen in ASR especially when the reaction is severe. ASR manifests itself after the occurrence of a traumatic event and its symptoms can be unstable and complicated. The severity of ASR symptoms can lessen as time passes, but not for everyone. How a person recovers from the initial stress response depends on many factors. The emotional and physical health of the individual, past traumatic experiences, level of perceived threat, and the severity of the event. Age plays a role as well, with children responding and presenting differently from adults due to developmental processes. Adults are better able to verbalize their experiences and feeling where as children are unable to do so putting them at higher risk for a long term stress disorder.
