Equality 7 Anthem Analysis
From the moment he was born, Equality 7-2521 had no control over his life. Once he was seperated from his mother, he lived in the Home of Infants with the other kids born that year. When he turned age five he was sent to the Home of the Students where they realized he was different from the other children. The Council of Vocations were frightened for he was too different, so they assigned him to the Home of the Street Sweepers where he couldn't be a threat. Equality 7-2521 and everyone else in the city had their lives stolen from them. They took away his freedom. What the Council did is so unforgivable that Equality 7-2521 has every right to criticize and denounce them. All human beings have the right to live the way they want to live, but

She also wrote and essay called How Does One Lead A Rational Life In an Irrational Society?. Advice that Ayn Rand provides in that essay is something I think Equality 7-2521 would definitely take.The main point in the essay is that "one must never fail to pronounce a moral judgment.", and that is exactly what Equality 7-2521 did. He left the city, learned all about the forbidden word, and planned to start a new city. Anthem states, "When I shall have read all the books and learned my new way.. I shall steal one day.. into the cursed city of my birth.. I shall call to me the men and women whose spirit has not yet been killed." (100-101). He will pronounce his moral judgement to other brave souls of that city. I shall lead them to my fortress.. I and they, my chosen friends, my fellow-builders, shall write the frist chapter in the new history of man." (101).
