Poverty is not acknowledged as a problem around the world. There is no answer to poverty because many people don't think it's even a problem at all. From Parks ‘’Flavio's Home’’ Flavio was sent to the United to receive medical care for his illness, and even though the United States struggles with poverty, poverty in Brazil is far from worse than any in America. There is no answer to poverty because of the denial of poverty in the United States. The current survey data shows that 15 percent of Americans, now that's about 45.6 million people living below the government standard of the poverty line(Abramsky). This tells us that there is no answer to poverty because Americans does not care. They can be so below the …show more content…
poverty line that some Americans want to be because they know that they can get help from the government as if they was working for the government. This cause has led up to the fact that Americans just don't want to work just because the government is such a big help. In fact, President Obama nodded to the scale of America's poverty crisis in his speech on the fiftieth anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr March on Washington(Abramsky). President Obama nod was not enough due to the fact that poverty has rapidly grown since that time. Due to how much President Obama has helped Americans as well.
The second reason why there is no answer to poverty is because the United States takes advantage. Living in the United States President Obama and every government have what is called a poverty line. If a person is either on the poverty line or below due to low income, the families are in fact living in poverty. In the United State the families living in poverty are insured on medical help, welfare, and other subsidies that the government gives them. Remind you that over half of the Americans uses poverty because of the help that the government gives. The ones that does not want to work nor lack of education so they take advantage and say they are poor. For some Americans, the government this just a way of getting things for ‘’free’’(Sanders). Living in America who want to try and get things for free. This is also the shameful reason of the poverty stats in today's society. Not only that but the most famous subsidies that taking place in the United States right now is the Obama Care this is taking care of people that are in poverty and have low income, little to no insurance on health, and is involved with the unemployed. While Americans think this is so great and everything, the people who do work for a living make good money and have a career. Most of their hard work other than taxes, gets taken from the government in order to help the people that are living in poverty or close. Which is not okay at all for the Americans who are not lazy.
The final reason why there is no answer to poverty is because in the short story of Parks ‘’Flavio's Home,’’ reader who find that living in the ghetto of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil has nothing on what the United States is poverty line.
Flavio is a young boy from Brazil slums and has no way of getting out just have been living with it since the day was born. Flavio starts out by saying ‘’It is the most savage of all human afflictions, claiming victims who cannot mobilize their efforts against it, who often lack strength to digest what little food they scrounge up to survive(Parks 95).’’ Now Americans talk about how they are so in poor but most Americans could not even dream about one family trying to survive of one can of beans each day. Now this is what Gordon Parks are trying to get the readers to understand that if they went around the world and saw what poverty really looked like, the readers who almost say even President Obama is not doing his job. While Americans and the President say they are doing this and that for poverty, why don't they take a good look at Rio De Janeiro. There is no answer to poverty because if people really wanted to end poverty millions of people and families would end up like Flavio did in the story. The
