Poverty in America Today, even with all of our achievements in just the past century, 47 million Americans still suffer to survive because of poverty. US poverty isn’t anything new because the US has suffered from poverty for a while now and we still can’t seem to do anything about it. While other countries do have problems with poverty, they most likely don’t have poverty issues quite like the US which has the highest poverty rate of any developed country. Does that sound easy, well that it’s because it is! The only problem is that people won’t come together to fight for one cause. The article The Top 10 Solutions to Cut Poverty and Grow the Middle Class said, “When the government invests in jobs and policies to increase workers’ wages and families’ economic security, children and families see improved outcomes in both the short and long term.” This basically means that if the government makes poverty their priority, they can solve poverty issues nationwide. The most obvious solution for poverty is to create more jobs, but even though that seems impossible in modern times, it’s actually quite simple. The best way to create new jobs and rebuild the economy is to create construction jobs that are tasked with rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure. Also, if the government executes a law that raised the minimum wage by $3, then 4 million families will be easily lifted out of poverty! Children are a major poverty problem because of how much they cost. If corporations and the government were willing to lower price ranges for child care, then thousands, if not millions of families and people will not only escape poverty, but ensure the children a better future in better schools. So even if poverty seems like a big issue now, their are still many solutions that can get rid of 90% of poverty in the US within less …show more content…
This is why the US has always had issues with poverty and will most likely continue to have these issues unless we take advantage of our future and use our intelligence to solve the various issues of poverty. It all comes down to whether we will finally take a stand and try to destroy poverty by either drastic or slow means. Hopefully we will try to solve our poverty issues instead of doing what we have been doing for a while where we toss poverty to the side as a mild inconvenience for the less fortunate, only time will
