The disease is caused by a condition known as atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis causes a waxy substance to form inside the arteries also known as plaque (Cholesterol)l. It affects the body by blocking the blood flow making and making the arteries to harden and narrow. P.A.D. is not contagious, although, it is genetic, meaning, if past family members have had it, you could too. Like during embryonic formation, you could develop it at a very young age. The total outcome of P.A.D. is that if you do get it, you can get it treated with quitting bad habits and start making new ones that will help your health. P.A.D. affects the circulatory system because the system is everything the blood runs throughout and this disease blocks the arteries that the blood goes through. It affects people with everyday life, it can stop someone from simply just getting up from their bed in the morning from the numbness in their legs.
