On average children remain in state care for nearly two years and six percent of children in foster care have been there for five years or more, also the majority of people that are in foster care are children that are very very young. 14 percent of them live in institutions or group homes. Most people age out of foster care without permanent families to be exact 20,000 people do. Resarch has shown that people that do that end up homeless or unemployed.
