There are many similarities in the book and movie that are either easy or difficult to recognize. Tiny things such as, Jonas’s first color being red, Jonas having stirrings about Fiona, and Jonas getting to see the release of the twin, are all things that happened in The Giver book or movie. Also, when Jonas learned about the word, “love” in both the book and the movie, Jonas asked his parents if they loved him. When Gabriel awoke in the night, Jonas would always calm him back to sleep by giving him peaceful memories in the movie and the book. So as you can see, there are many likenesses.

I’m saying this because I feel that the movie did a better job at describing everything than the book. I’m pretty sure that if I watched the movie first, I would understand the book better. In the book, it’s such another generation that you just don’t understand everything. Otherwise, in the movie you can understand everything by actually seeing all of the material. For example, at the end of the movie, you can see that when Jonas crosses the border with Gabriel, in the community you can now notice how everything changed from dull to colorful and that people actually had feelings and emotions.
