The book The Earth, My Butt, and Other Round Things is an intriguing book about a teenager that goes through the many wonders of finding herself. In 2006 in Westminister, Maryland this book was banned from most libraries. While The Earth, My Butt, And Other Round Things can be a good book for mature readers, it shouldn’t be in the hands of middle school students and younger; though it shouldn’t necessarily be banned from most libraries either. Children reading this material can cause them to be scared of asking their parents or teachers for the right answer, and instead lead them to ask their friends or students and they get the wrong idea. Sometimes with the eating disorders, kids can often times act upon that because they think it’s cool, when they really don’t have the right idea about the subject (Library). Books with sexual encounters can cause inappropriate images to young readers that may not be able to handle (Library). Early exposure can also lead to risk taking with sex, and other things that can cause long to social and mental issues. If high school students were to read this, it wouldn’t be as bad with the after effects mentally they are much more mature and can handle real life encounters. The Earth, My Butt, And Other Round Things is a fantastic book for high school students, they can learn a lot from it. Middle school students and younger on the other hand should not have this book in their hands because of the effects it can cause for them long term if read in isolation and given the wrong idea. Libraries shouldn’t have to ban this book though, because it is a good book if read
