My Ethical Lens Inventory
My personal preferred lens is Rights and Responsibility and Relationship Lens. This means I use my reasoning skills to determine the universal rules that each person should follow and the processes that will ensure fairness and justice for all in the community. My core values are Autonomy/Equality and Rationality. This means for me interdependence is the goal, harmonizing the rights of individuals with the well-being of the community. I believe that universal rules apply equally to everyone and the best ethical results are achieved through consistency of applying the universal rules. I value individual balance and restraint in the desires for pleasure as I seek to satisfy my duties. When dealing with members of the community I value the social balance achieved through loyalty and consistency. My key phrase is “I am fair and responsible” (Ethical Lens Inventory Report www.ethics game.com). I tend to assume that everyone must value the universal application of a fair system in order to achieve an ethical result. I always think through a problem carefully and research options to find the one that will allow me to fulfill my duties. I strive to make a fully informed decision to meet the needs of the community, without harming those who may be least advantaged. My gift to the community is self-awareness and justice. This means if I say I am going to do something, I do it. My blind spot is sometimes I get too focused that I cannot see the problems with how I am doing it, and can cause unintentional upset and pain to someone. I also run the risk of requiring others to do things my way. Even though I believe that the universal rules apply to everyone, I tend to excuse myself in special cases. My vice is that sometimes I am too quick to judge someone when they don’t complete their duties. Exhaustion, isolation and guilt will be my crisis if don’t realize that all of my obligations cannot be meet by others and I will have the
