The first thing people see is the outward appearance of someone. It doesn’t always mean people act like how they dress necessarily, get to know a person and you’ll see what they’re really like. Someone might look lazy and not pay a lot of attention to their appearance, but they could be a diligent and intelligent person. Outward appearances should not affect the way the person is viewed on the inside. People also might act differently than someone else because of where they grew up and how they lived. “Human behavior is largely constrained by the rules that govern particular situations and environments. We are constantly obliged to behave in a particular way, or to avoid certain behaviors” (Burgess). When evaluating or sizing up people for the first time, we use a “schemata” (Morris & Maisto, 2010, pg. 456) or preconceived set of beliefs or expectations about the category or type of person that we initially believe them to be. We look at their clothing, hear their speech patterns and pay close attention to their body language. After this we generally delve into their personality deeper while investigating their personal beliefs and morals while comparing them to our own. The first part of self assessing me was pretty important because it was a sum of my whole lifestyle in one. Giving me an overall look on what I should change or if I should even change any of my habits. My smoking score was a perfect 10, which was not surprising at all to me. My alcohol/drug score for this was seven points because I do drink. The score for my eating and exercising habits were perfect because I do a good job when it comes to eating right and working out on a daily. My stress control score was an eight, but I do understand why. I do know that I stress to some extent. My last score was safety and the score for that was a nine. Each of the self-assessments were an eye opener to me and to what my life has been like since the first-time primary socialization has taken place. The results for my analysis were more focused on groups. Most of the words that I wrote down put me into groups with other people, such as, nursing student or bibliophile. The results for the second analysis were that I am in the normal range for self-esteem. The next analysis that I did told me that I believe we are all in control of our own fate. After participating to the residential workshop, we have learnt a few management knowledge and skills throughout the engineering management practice. These knowledge and skills are useful for our future life as they are training up our confidence and attitude. Other than the knowledge and skills for individual, for the whole team operation, cooperation and communication of each of us were trained in the workshop as well. We needed to suggest, discuss and improve the solutions for each activity. For each activity, we needed to make the decision and complete the task in a limited time. We needed to do the job allocation and organization ourselves. In addition, there were two aspects we had newly learnt in the workshop. Self Evaluation: I think I did an overall good job as a manager today. I came prepared to class with all of the necessary documents, knowledge of the menu, and knowledge of my assignments for the day. My strengths include arriving to class on time, remaining focused during service, and completing all of my assigned tasks. I was able to do those things effectively by preparing for the day prior to coming to class. My weaknesses include, placing water in the glasses before service, turning the music on in time, and adjusting the lights.
