“The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding.” - Albert Camus. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of British schoolboys become stranded on a deserted tropical island after their plane is shot down. Without the rules and structure of civilization the boys quickly descend into savagery. Some of the boys who are led by Ralph, the group’s chosen leader, are peaceful and work together to achieve common goals. The others led by Jack are hunters who act selfishly and indulge in violence. William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, tells the story of Macbeth, a brave Scottish general, who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will be the King of Scotland. His ambitious thoughts and influence from his wife spurs him to murder King Duncan and seize the throne. Macbeth becomes a tyrannical ruler and is forced to commit more murders in order to protect himself from suspicion. In literature, evil seems like a good choice and is slightly successful but in the end it is proven to be less than good, possibly even harmful. The idea that evil often triumphs but never conquers in literature is true. This is shown in Golding’s Lord of the Flies and Shakespeare’s Macbeth. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph is chosen the leader and sets the goal of getting rescued using a signal fire to attract ships. Jack is the leader of the hunters and wishes to use authoritarian rule over democratic rule. Jack is ruled over by evil through his selfishness in wanting to hunt and forget about the fire. He hides behind a mask and quickly moves towards complete savagery. He never gets that far since the boys are rescued by a naval officer. In Macbeth, the main character, Macbeth is persuaded by his wife, Lady Macbeth, to murder the king of Scotland so he will take the throne. Lady Macbeth makes Macbeth feel unmanly and cowardly so he…
In the book, “Strength to Love”, Martin Luther King Jr. said “ The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” In other words, a person’s character is defined by how they respond at a time of despair, hurt, and struggle and not how a person acts and what they stand for at a time of peacefulness and luxury. Both, “Fences” by August Wilson and “The Color of Water” by James McBride illustrate the truth of this quote using characterization and conflict.…
An anonymous speaker once said, " In literature, evil often triumphs but never conquers." This means that in literature there is always a clash between a good side and an evil side. The characters on the evil side are usually illustrated as more intelligent figures and will appear to be winning the little battles with the good side however, in the end the good will always prevail. I agree with this quote because whatever happens good will always conquer as seen in both Macbeth by William Shakespeare and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne…
1. What would you consider the three most important facts about the history and politics of Pakistan from 1989 to 1998? List them in order of importance and briefly explain why they are important.…
An anoymous writer wrote “Literature opens a dark window on the soul, revealing more about what is bad in human nature than what is good.” This quote means that literature tells more of the bad things that people do than the the good things. This is because it is more thrilling to read about the misfortunes of someone than an a characters regular life. This quote is proven true in the two works The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and in The Color Purple by Alice Walker.…
I felt sad for Mr. Gill, one of the main reasons being that I have personally been in a MVC myself which brought up the similar feelings, such as anxiety and chronic pain that Mr. Gill expressed. It felt like despite the differences in our age or situation, the pain he was expressing I could relate to directly. Another reason for feeling sadness for him was that he reminded me so much of my own father in appearance and nature. During the session, he referred to me as someone who is like his daughter and that he felt comfortable sharing information with me. I think this moment caused a shift in our therapeutic relationship, in which I felt even more inclined to show him respect and to provide encouragement on his development. The language barriers he faced in getting treatment made me feel angry towards the system. Unfortunately, MVC are common occurrences in our society thus, I imagined that the support systems would have been set in place for survivors to reduce the effects of physical and psychological harms.…
The nurse manager should convince the nurse to share with the nurse manager about any difficulties that she faces during his shift. Provide him some advice about his attitudes of judging others and reinforce him to stop doing it and discuss the consequences if he continues his inappropriate actions. Encourage the nurse to communicate more with the colleagues about his problem outside the clinical setting privately or he can approach the senior nurse manager if he faces any difficulties working with the expertise such as the physician. The nurse manager can talk to the students about the situation and discuss with them about the consequences of doing such actions. The nurse manager can approach the…
Performing a research requires a person with integrity and a strong will to continue until the research is complete and he or she is satisfied that the research was done to his or her best ability. When documenting the findings the researcher must report a complete finding of all data including information that may not be a promising as he or she would like. Researching is about finding out the likely hood of an event or crime. The researcher should begin the research not knowing, or expecting a particular outcome. Research is to better prepare the universe for what may occur giving certain situations. The integrity of the researcher will determine how valid the information from the research will be.…
This article, “The RU-486 Abortion Pill Should Be Available to Women”, was written by Laura Fraser in 2001 for the Greenhaven Press. The issue involved with this article is whether or not the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S.. The conclusion Fraser came up with was yes, the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S., and for plenty of reasons. For example, if mifepristone becomes available, it will remove political and practical barriers so women can get abortions and physicians will not have to perform complete abortions. Also, 54% of all…
Compasses, maps and GPS were all used in combination together so that we could direct and navigate ourselves to our destination. Obviously the compasses were used to let us know what direction we were facing and what bearing we were taking, the maps were used so we could position and realise ourselves in relation to our destination in terms of distance, where we were and how far until we reached our intended location.…
Recently I have been studying on a Masters course and have been studying about leadership and management in health. I have little practical experience of leadership and management of health projects or services. It is important that I reflect on my learning as I hope to develop my skills and experience of management and leadership once I leave the university.…
Since I had this professor for ECE300 I already had an idea how the class is going to be. The class load is the same as when I had her for ECE300 (I seems like a lot if you don’t plan ahead). An A way I am happy I do not have to go and observe children like previously ECE classes I had taken because of my schedule for this semester. Being able to visit two different CBO’s and talking to parent coordinator seems more flexible with my schedule and I already have ideas where I want to go. At first I did not know what the professor was talking about when she said we had to find “CBO”. All I kept telling myself, what is CBO? Oh god, this seems hard. How can I make this work with my schedule? But once the professor gave us example I had an idea where to go.…
I use reflective practice with everything I do not just work, but with daily tasks as well. I understand in life everyone wants to be the best. I take notes on daily basis asking myself what I can do better to set myself apart from my peers. Finding people and talking about relative information about my career, and the steps they took to get where they are is helpful to me. Some information is good, and some is bad that’s for me to decide. Preparation for presentations relates with reflective practice. When I first started instructing it was the hard. Standing in front of forty plus people not know what’s going through their minds difficult. Using reflective practice, understanding what you need to improve on to deliver the information…
