Example Of A Personal Statement For A Fieldwork Assignment
I am extremely excited to be starting my final level one fieldwork assignment. However, I know that this fieldwork assignment is going to be very different than my previous placements. I really enjoyed my first fieldwork assignment because I had the opportunity to observe the pediatric patients. I love working with kids and I believe that the pediatric population would be my first choice of employment after graduation.
Although I am very excited for my next fieldwork assignment, I know that Health South will be different from my two previous placements. Beside the fact that the clients will be different in age than the previous clients, the atmosphere will be a lot different too. Despite the differences between the two locations, I believe that my experience at Health South will open my eyes to a new area of occupational therapy aside from pediatrics. When I begin my observation, I will bring a positive attitude, sense of determination, a confident mind set, an open mind, and energy each day to the facility. I want the clients to know that even though I am a student, I am

I am very appreciative that I will be given the opportunity to work with a new population within a new setting. However, I feel as though I will run into a few difficulties during my experience at Health South. I am afraid of what my supervisor and the clients might think of me. I worry that people will think that I don’t know anything only because I am a student and that I am not a certified therapist. I also worry that my supervisor will give me the opportunity to take on a responsibility involving a client in which I might not be ready to take on. I believe that the client will not want to participate since they don’t know who I am or that they may not trust me. It is difficult when these thoughts enter my mind because it makes me believe that I won’t be able to perform to my full

Observing Occupational Therapists at Brookville Center for Children’s Services and Belair Nursing Home have helped me gather the insight of what it takes to be an occupational therapist and how much their work can improve a person’s life. I had the opportunity to witness first-hand the positive affect occupational therapists had on people of all ages who have been physically and mentally impaired by a health issue, by helping them slowly but efficiently regain control of their life. Occupational therapy incorporates my passion to help others, patience, and creativity to help them achieve an individual goal they could not achieve previously, and create personal and individual relationships with each patient. My biggest inspiration to become…

I had the pleasure of shadowing a physical therapist in a home health setting treating children under the age of three. At first what initially looked like playing with the kids turned out to be much harder when I tried emulating what the therapist did. Throughout my senior year and even more now as a graduate, I realize I'm still constantly learning. I desire to continue to observe different settings as well as retake a class in order to prepare myself for school. Beyond shadowing I jumped on an opportunity to work side-by-side therapists. I took a position as a rehab aide at an outpatient clinic and enjoy seeing all I’ve learned so far being applied every day. I have absorbed knowledge of different protocols, handing practices, and front office operations. I relished being a part of the treatment process as well as the everyday tasks involved in running a clinic. It opened my eyes to better see the depth and breadth of the world of physical…

The tasks completed during my BSW senior year field placement with the Department of Social Services varied. Conducting home visits with my supervisor while observing client behaviors in the foster home was a task I completed frequently. During these visits, my supervisor introduced me to clients and displayed how to properly conduct client in home assessment forms. These assessment forms would contain information pertaining to the client’s living conditions in their foster homes and would document the physical and psychological needs of the client to help them improve independent living skills; better preparing them for transition out of care. Also, I was allowed the opportunity to attend a school meeting discussing a client’s 504 behavioral plan. During this activity, it was discussed why the client was placed in the alternative school rather than being placed in regular school. After the meeting, the team concluded that the client was misplaced and that the client would developmentally progress within the school’s environment. This activity allowed me to see the importance of advocating for clients. This client’s worker did not accept the client being placed in alternative school and therefore did everything in her power to be placed back in regular school where the client best fit. Lastly, while interning at the Department of Social Services, I spent time updating Child Tracking Forms and Psychological Evaluation Reference lists; contacting different organizations exploring the services they provide clients who have experienced trauma. Completing this activity help me improve my ability to find local resources that will assist with advocating for clients. The activities completed while interning at the Department of Social Service has better prepared me for working with diverse populations within the community.…

At the internship, a PT called me over to assist with a patient I had worked with previously. The patient had not walked in over a year and was going to use the litegait machine for the first time. Once situated in the litegait the PT told me to position myself to move his left leg in a walking motion. The treadmill on the litegait began and the PT and I worked together to move each leg in a walking motion. Immediately, the patient became emotional because doctors told him he would never walk again, but he was walking with the help of the litegait and the two of us. I did that, I helped this guy in his recovery process, I brought a smile to his face. This is only one of the times that I felt a sense of bliss being able to assist a patient in recovery and make a difference in their lives and I loved the feeling. To be excited about patients’ success is what fuels my passion in this field is and to observe the progress of patients amazes me and makes me want to do everything necessary to be this change agent in someone's life. I will be a professional student because I have the passion for mastering all material and for continuing to learn the best methods all so I can help the patients progress in their recovery. This passion will drive me in my daily career and in PT…

There are many things I am thankful for, one of them is the opportunity to chase my dreams and use my education, experiences, and professional practice to make a difference in the lives of others. This class marks the beginning of my path to a hopefully long and influential career in the field of social work. This course has presented opportunities and challenges to raise a level of awareness of self that I did not realize I possessed. I have and will continue to use this discernment to relate and understand others. Prior to this semester, I did not fully grasp how each of these exercises, experiences, and interactions would correlate and influence my way of thinking and attitude in life. I have learned, grown, and am proud to know that the…

Since I was young, I have had a desire to help others who were in need. I was always keen on learning about the framework of society. I was enthralled by figuring out why people do the things they do, what drives them. Throughout my life, this desire to help people stayed with me. First, it was through informal sessions of friends in high school needing a listening, non-judgmental, shoulder to cry on. As a child I wanted to pursue a career as a dentist and to help people understand the importance of dental hygiene. I attended Mansfield University for a year after I graduated high school where I lived on campus, met new people and no parents to be in my business. Classes became secondary and hanging out was primary. I received my freshman year grades and was in awe because I knew that I was not taking it seriously. Needless to say, I took a few years off of schooling. I then worked for several companies that ranged from customer service to debt collecting to restaurant hospitality. The money was good at the time but I started to realize that I wanted more out of life, and wanted to further my education. I went back to Mansfield University in 2008. This is when I felt the pull of psychology and change majors. I later came to think of this decision as a revolutionary step that turned my attention to what I now am determined to make a calling, and a profession, for a lifetime, for my lifetime. I knew what I wanted to do, but, I still had the dilemma of applying my full self. Even after the time off, I found it hard to focus on school work as much as I should have. All these classes were showing me how to help others, when really, I needed to help myself. I had a few life lessons to learn, and personal issues to understand before I could devote myself to anything.…
